Anyone notice ingebrigtsen cut off Hocker too at around the 1375m mark. all that to come 4th.
Pacing someone for 1400m in an olympic final and not letting them inside on the rail that you have held all race is in fact not cutting someone off, it’s actually the best gift anyone has ever given cole hocker
The classic mistake Jakob made is he focused on Kerr and didn't respect the rest of the field. Kerr actually did what he needed to do and set a NR but US guys were relentless staying close to the leaders and kicking hard, that's always the best strategy.
This was really simple - Jakob took it out way too fast for him and the once again, let the 3rd lap slip (but again - this is what happens when you run the opening lap so quickly?!?!).
Hocker just ran beautifully my god - rough splits off the coverage - he must have been 55.5 at 400, 1.51.9 at 800 (56.4) 2.47.6 (55.7) and then closed in 40.0
But the most important thing? He basically ran in lane one the whole way (apart from a little move on the back straight to pass Nuguse and TC) and didn't fight anyone.
I have no hate for Ingebritsen. Honest championship race. I prefer this to a sit and kick 3:29 win. On another day Jakob could have gotten the WR. He may still this year. Also this may be a peak thing, not a bad race thing.
