What advice/suggestion would you give a successful high school coach trying to make a jump to college? I hear it is who you know and to also make sure I have good references, but it is awful hard to get a reference from a college coach without working for them. At the same time, I can’t really just go volunteer somewhere because I do need to actually earn some money for the family.

develop kids to a level that they get recruited by college coaches. That is the best way for a high school coach to get into the college coaches circle. If you aren't getting kids on that kind of radar then college coaching probably inst in the cards. That being said some level of consistent success could land you a crappy small college gig.
I’ve coached plenty of high school runners that have gone on to be D1 Runner’s... that has nothing to do with it. It’s who you know in this game.
Define qualified, cause you’ll find most hires aren’t the most qualified in the way you would define it.
