So if Trump fired Comey to stop the Russia investigation then that is textbook obstruction of justice. Note that the first article of impeachment against Nixon is "Obstruction of Justice".Trump admits that he indeed fired Comey to stop the Russia investigation. Trump said to Lester Holt:
I was going to fire Comey knowing, there was not good time to do it. And in fact when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story
He says the Russia investigation is what drove the decision.
Trump just admitted that he committed a crime.

But another thought occurred to me. Are Democrats playing along with a slow-walk toward impeachment?
Impeachment could mean both Trump and Pence go down. In that case Paul Ryan becomes president.
But if Democrats can win back the house that means a Democrat becomes president instead.

Well, Pence isn't guaranteed to go down with Trump...he might, but no guarantee. Interesting scenario, but I would be surprised if this were the strategy of the Democrats. If the process does take that long and we have a Democrat Speaker and then both Pence and Trump go down, there will be questions about that for sure.

Pence did lead the transition team and apparently ignored the warnings that he was about to hire a foreign agent as National Security Advisor.
It's conceivable that Pence goes down primarily thorough his leadership of the transition.

I am amazed Mike Pence is vice president. His only non-government employment was as a conservative talk radio host, and a lawyer in a conservative think tank. He parlayed the talk radio gig into getting elected to the house, where he never wrote a single piece of legislation. He existed only to be on news programs espousing his christian values. He gets elected governor by a pretty slim margin, and the manages to screw multiple things up. He was headed for loss until Trump pulls him out, and makes him veep.
