How close was it? It's rounded to the second, but it looked like it could've been closer than the womens 100m
Ok, I'll admit I've never heard of most any of these top finishers. You know what, it didn't matter. It was a GREAT race pure and simple.
lmao true I only tuned in for the last mile or so, and seeing like Germany-Tanzania-Israel or something I was like wtf, and no names I recognized
I'm so glad I didn't turn it off and go back to Silksong though, I've never seen a marathon finish that close. Shoutout to whoever posted "I hope theres a 20 man kick on the track the last 200" because that's what convinced me to tune in <3
They should create a version of Guess Who with marathoners faces. “Does he have a headband?” Yes. (Knocks down 18 people). “Would you never think he’s German?” Yes. Knocks down one more person. Is it the dude who came second in the 2025 Worlds? Yes! You got it!
I think this was the best possible result for him. He was in the hunt for most of the race, but he's just not as good as the guys who beat him. A 2:08:00 guy (2:07 guy if you count point-to-point) losing world champs by 55 seconds is a very good result.
In his previous international marathons, he lost by 10 minutes (21 chicago), 7 1/2 minutes (22 chicago), 11 1/2 minutes (23 chicago), 2 minutes (24 olympics), 2 minutes (24 nyc), 2.5 minutes (25 boston).
All things factored, this is the closest he's ever been in a race with international talent, and it wouldn't be realistic to expect him to do better than this.
Proud of Cam for gutting it out and hanging on to finish 12th too. Hot/humid day doesn't serve many North Americans, and he was still way ahead of the other Canadians and Americans besides Clatyon

It reminded me of watching those winter Olympic cross country ski races where you don't know anybody, but the race turns mesmerizing and the top people finish seconds apart after hours of racing.
