I stand corrected; my question,now after the most Winston behavior, is: Does FSU ever reject anyone for character issues or academics ???

Sam Kendrick's is just went pro and his dad resigned as volunteer coach at Ole Miss. I wonder what this means for the direction of the rest of the program

It means that Ole Miss is in rapid decline from mediocrity until the clown coach is canned. It is very sad what is going on there. Hopefully the administration will can the clown soon!

If your referring to Gondak, I think you are totally wrong. He has proven he can recruit, lead, develop and coach.

It would seem he has more than earned this opportunity!

You truly have not paid much attention to the men's mid distance crew at Penn St.

There is one middle of the pack school in the SEC that has been in the news a lot, that should be investigated on possible Recruiting Violations.

Brian O'Neal is a good coach and we all hope that he stays in Oxford for a long time.

This is what happens when the only coach on the staff who's coaching points at NCAA is a volunteer. Especially when you have an open slot that doesn't get filled. No reason they couldn't have hired Scott until Sam graduated. Even if it was a mutual agreement that it was until Sam was done. At least you would have had someone recruiting the event. Might have been able to attract a couple good vaulters.

Recruiting the event??? Ummm, so why would any athlete want to come if the coach would be leaving when their son/daughter is finished?

Even if he only stayed 2 years he's doing better than the rest of the staff. Why would anyone athlete want to come now if the average tenure of an assistant is only 1 year?

Congrats to John Gondak, as well as to PSU for making a great choice, not to mention the right thing to do.

One of the most-complained-about issues on this thread is when coaches get jobs supposedly based on who they know rather than what they know and what they've accomplished. That is certainly not the case here. JG has more than proven himself at PSU in virtually every regard. He is a huge part of why the program has reached the level of success it has. In addition, he is very well liked by his athletes, an important ingredient in that success.

Is he perfect? No. Has he made, and will he make, some mistakes? Yes. But he has more than earned the position and the opportunity. Not only is this good for the Penn State program, but it's good for collegiate cross country and track and field.

you don't think the fact that Gondak was hired is EXACTLY the who did he know? He knew everybody at Penn State, that had to have been his greatest asset in the interview process. Knew the team, knew the community, knew the recruits, knew the administration, etc.

Maybe because they get to train at one of the nicest highschools in the state. How many SEC schools can say that?
