seattle,
It is a long story. Prior to the Cayman I have owned three cars all bought new and on loans: 1972 Datsun 510 station wagon, 1981 VW Diesel Truck, 1999 Ford Ranger Pick-Up. I gave the Ford Pick-Up to my son when he went to Georgia Tech for graduate school. At that time we were caregivers to my father-in-law who moved to Idaho from Southern California. So I drove my wife’s car, while she drove his 2001 Buick La Sabre (he was 87 at the time and would get lost in Boise). Anyway we inherited the car at his death and I drove it for six years. By 2016 I started looking for a replacement vehicle. My wife actually encouraged me to get what I wanted. Looked at pre-owned and even 10 year old Caymans averaged around $30,000. If I bought new the interest rates were a couple percent lower. So I did, my wife’s name is the same as the car but spelled Portia (sound familiar). I considered vanity plates for the same but the family voted against it. The most extravagant purchase in my life, but I will am working until age 70, so why not?
Thanks and hope you are well.
Igy
I was just catching up on the thread and noticed this reference to Igy’s wife who’s name happens to be the same as my username here. A later post by Igy mentions his concern with someone using his wife’s name.
To be clear, I had no way of knowing what his wife’s name was before I started posting under that handle. I chose the name because of its obvious (I thought) connection to the financial services industry.
Igy, if this explanation does not assuage your concerns, just say the word and I will choose a new handle.
