You do not need the FBI to investigate this , just the one split, 15km to 20km in LAM as shown unequivocally by Derek, where he is visibly entering the course at 18.7km, proves that it was physically impossible for him to have run that 5km segment in the split time, with the stoppage.

Further, the video evidence of him prior to entering the course just 125 to 130m before the 25km mat again shows a physical impossibility of running that 5km segment in the recorded split time.

I could show you the maths, but I guess it will be wasted on you.

Now, that is the maths and the actual video evidence, however without all of that, as a former RD of small to major races, a coach of sub 3 hr runners, having run marathons for over 40 yrs, and still attempting to run under 3 hrs at my age (3:15 is 'comfortable'), I know what a sub 3hr marathoner looks like especially at 60 or 70 and I know 'how' a sub 3 hr marathoner runs (form), and I know what it takes to run one.

If I was the RD and had seen him cross the line (because you know who your gun runners are in race), I would have immediately called BS and asked the timer to investigate and would have had his result immediately red flagged as a 'pending publication'. There would be no presumption of so called innocence , this is not a murder trial. There would be onus to show me that a man in such shape can run the time he alleges without having had vehicular assistance.

And from experience as a timer, I would have likewise not authenticated his result for publication or record purposes.

For the LAM RD not to take any action by now, shows that they are either rank amateurs that have never run a marathon, or they do not care about their credibility and the credibility of any time run on their course, and so why would anyone go and run there.

Just run a random training run in your own neighbourhood and say that's your marathon time, it has the same credibility.

You seem to be a very intelligent person Sam. You know all about how to put on a cheat free marathon! What marathon are you the RD of because I will come run it?

He had the white timing loop on a lanyan, but had it in his hand after finishing, on the SF2011 just posted above you can see it on the runners shoes. Frank chose to carry it.

Assuming you are serious, the last (major) race I RD-ed was in 2014, sucked 6 yrs out of my life, not an easy task. I still ran, split 3:16 marathon in a major ultra a couple of years ago, and north of 60 now, but still work at about 20 to 30 events every year.

Let's just put it this way, in 42 yrs since my first mara, from sub elite through to weekend warrior, from all the guys I ran with and coached, met in races and clubs , seen at my own events etc etc....I sub 3hr does not look like Frank, nor run like him at any age let alone 70, end of story for me, but there is the maths for people who do not know what a runner looks, behaves, runs like.

Its not rocket surgery nor brain science :-)

To be honest, I am not even sure why we are worried about lanyards, two watches and all the red herrings and furphies.

That's impressive. Thank you for your efforts and yes I would run your races. More than likely I probably already have.

The thing that really bothers me is when posters blame the RDs. The RDs have so much going on that it is a waste of time to focus on a cheater when you're getting ready for the next event. The mats are there and if there is a jerk-off who has gamed the system it is gonna be hard to prove it and unfortunately it isn't really worth your time if 99.999% of the athletes didn't cheat.

Thank you. That's the most intelligent post I have seen. However, you need to consider it from the RD's perspective. It's extremely difficult to refute the timing mats. The whole point of timing mats is to ensure runners don't cheat. If the RD comes out and says the timing mats didn't work then there is no more reason to have them. They might as well just set up random video cams along the course and ditch the mats.

Hmm. That might be the solution to this problem.

What is the white timing loop? Does it carry the so-called chip that is recorded when it passes over a timing mat? Why would you take it off before you finish the race?

...but not that hard to recognise a 70 yo breaking 3hr in your event. RD's actually would love that, indicates course to ideal for fast times etc, brings focus on race. So yes, you would recognise a top age grouper, even before the time, and as I have already done , would in fact insist that said top age groupers line up in front or at least with the other top contenders in age group, because positions are (should be) based on gun time and others in your head to head race should know where you are.
