IIRC, Jon G pointed out that she had run gigantically slower since turning pro, and therefore wondered if that had been a great choice for her. And Rojo went along with that --which seemed entirely reasonable in those circumstances.

Lopez is an a very small group with 1:45/27:30 credentials. Webb's bests were 1:43.84/27:34.72 to Lopez' 1:45.58/27:30.06. I think Said Aoita is the king of this group with 1:43.86/27:26.11. Hardly any world class 10,000 meter runners have world class 800m ability (even though at different times of their career obviously). Very impressive! Also, Lopez' performance in a championship race at Des Moines is much more impressive to me than Webb's performance at Stanford.

The analysis in the Letsrun article was an epic fail. At the time the article was published they compared her limited number of races in 2019 to the same time of year in previous years, not factoring in she no longer runs a HS or collegiate schedule (which is earlier in the year) and the fact that US nationals and world championships are later in the year in 2019.

Webb ran 1:43 the season AFTER his 27:34. That was also his only track 10k.

Great races by Fischer and Winter from Tinman Elite. Started in the middle of the pack and then kept passing more and more people, finishing in 6th and 8th with good PRs.
It's great to see what smart coaching can achieve with extremely limited resources and facilities if you put the right athletes together in a training group.
