Just like that, De Grasse is a legitimate 9.8x guy. Wow. Decent race from Bromell - probably would have been 10 flat or a little under in still wind - can't complain about that.
The lead ins are pre recorded. They obviously assumed a Bromell win.
well, when it's exciting it's more exciting...in an extremely timid, boring race in great conditions, i won the mile at the meet to qualify to the state meet in high school. I ran 4:58 and then ran 4:19 at the state meet.i also ran the 4x800m and 4x400 that night though...so i didn't care about the pace, just the qualifying and to stay fresh. it's weird that none of those guys went for it. what that tells me is that there isn't a tough, 'killer instinct' in USA track and field, and people take the cautious route and are content with that. Pre would call that "chicken sh*t"do you think the winner cares what his time was today? NOPe

In 1954, Bill Dellinger won (mile) in 4:13.8. Today's winner converts to 4:13.75. Considering 1500 & mile equivalents, this is the slowest winner since Dellinger.

Yeah, I was only paying partial attention when it was on the other night and I noticed at least five major errors on the announcers' part. How did these guys get a monopoly on the track gig? That and the commercial breaks in the middle of the distance events the other night (including steeple semi) left a bad taste in my mouth. At least it's on primetime ESPN tonight, though, so I guess that's a step in the right direction.

Yes, it's strange to change your tactics in a championships final but it's very windy. I don't think it was a good day to try to run fast and lead from the front.
I've always wondered what would happen to someone like Rudisha if he had to lead at Worlds in a non-stadium. There is nothing to block the wind coming out of the North here. Nothing.
I wonder if they'll address that for Worlds or if the wind is different in August.

I have to laugh when there is the inevitable simpleton post about the slow 1500 from someone without a clue. That is most definitely not why track is not doing well. It is a race, not a time trial. Learn to appreciate the tactics involved and maybe you will enjoy it instead of spouting ignorant statements.
