Congrats- you have reduced this 14 page thread into one paragraph.

No I haven't - not even close! To do that, you would have to include that Cross and Track are the purist of all athletic endeavors (though the other sports and games are certainly fun and require fitness, coordination, teamwork, etc). Therefore, XC/Track should NEVER be cut out of the collegiate experience - no matter what.

Now, that about sums it up. (smile)

Maybe those athletes should've trained harder and run for a better program. I sure didn't put my faith in a school on the downward spiral, but chose a solid program instead, and got 4 uninterrupted years of running and a small sponsorship afterwards. Ohio's ex-team is obviously full of former athletes who didn't even notice what was going on, but just blindly went onto the team. It's not like "OHIO" on the chest evoked fear. I also don't remember any Einsteins graduating from OU either.

To Mr. "exactly"...you say you sure didn't put your faith into a school on the downward spiral...

1. OU wasn't on a downward spiral. There was ZERO indication that this was happening. If anything, the OU squad was getting better again since a fall off 5-6 years ago.

Are you saying the same is true for Ball State, Western Michigan, Toledo, Bolwing Green, Marshall, West Virginia...track and field atheltes

Looking at OU's history, they were on a downward spiral. A glitch in the curve is hardly getting better. I suppose EMU stopped crapping their pants over regaining the MAC title when OU got axed. Anyway regarding using my real name, I'll give you credit for using your's after signing off as 'Wuss'.

my guess is the teams were blindsided. I am sure the blindside mechanism works best for the AD's involved. The last thing they wanted were warning signs that something was going to happen - gives others too much time to "organize the revolt".

There are other proportionality requirements, which few are every met, but it includes resources, salaries, travel budgets, recruitment budgets, etc. But yes of course, there are requirements for scholarships that must reflect the gender enrollment of the school. The choice of athletic offerings however is determined by the school so they have some control - for example, you won't find (don't quote me) a rowing team in Wyoming.

Football is always the sacred cow. If all would agree to put that animal as Banton stated "on a diet", then non-revenue sports would have a chance of survival. That is what makes the whole things bullshit. If OU is in such bad shape and they had the will to save these three sports, then they could cut EVERY sport, male and female, in order to keep these three alive. They do not have the will for anything, they are cutting these sports to purchase more grain to feed their f-cow.

I been interested if they let you do it...It sounds like a great idea...but is probably just a delay tactic by the AD to get you out of the office and not make a big deal at the MAC indoor meet this weekend.

It looks like track and field is one of the most popular sport in Ohio.! Not soccer as 16x thinks..

it's amazing that you would even take the time to write but saying one sport is more popular based on participation rates is an immature way of looking at sport participation levels.

just take track and field - up to 3 people can run in 16 events, so it has a large roster of participants. Footb all fields 11, and with special team units etc it carries a large roster, maybe 60 or more. Basketball has 5 people on the court, and typically the entire bench is 12 to 16 individuals.

I contend that if basketball were to not make cuts it would be by far have the most participation or at least rival football roster size and at least for boys would blow track and field right out of the water.

soccer is not a varsity sport at many high schools, such as the one in my town, so they have a club and play others club teams in the region - and by far, without a doubt, steels more of our distance runners and track and field athletes than any other sport. They just are listed in the Ohio Athletic Association stats because they aren't a high school sactioned team.

bottom line, you and I don't really know exactly what the stats for soccer are.

It appears that 16x and others have made some historically perspective remarks concerning title IX and its abuse by AD's in college sports. I've followed the thread for the past week. I can't find anything of value contributed by go bob cat. go bob cat should sit back with his or her pie hole shut and read what intelligent individuals have to contribute instead of running his fingers with stupid smart ass remarks.
