It would literally be laugh-out-loud hilarious to watch Hull shove Hailu to the ground, if it hadn't taken out the defending champion with a faster PB than the whole field.
Hilarious that this was not DQed, and also how predictable it was to DQ a no-name (correctly) and not the biggest name in the final.
My ENTIRE POINT was that Hull would obviously NOT be DQed.
Duh.
Right, because “Hull is protected, especially as a medalist in the race. No chance of the golden girl losing silver for a DQ that is borderline to fans. (Even if it's clear to people with knowledge.).” You’re definitely not claiming a conspiracy or trying to walk back your nonsense.

Yo, that Garcia was pushing hard to get into Hull's space, with Hull having to defend her off - more than usual. Don't know what Garcia was gunning for so aggressively, but it looks like she caused Hull to lose some balance, with the reflex of trying not to fall - pushing Hailu in the process. Watch it! Watch it with popcorn!

I stand by all of that.
1. It was an obvious DQ.
2. It is obvious that dispensation of judgement calls is varied.
3. It is obvious that Hull (multiple global medalist, finishing in clear third here) would benefit from this variation.
As I also noted, the officials are fortunate that she didn't win. A poor judgement call in the battle for minor placings will not be remembered or even noted by any both the most avid fans.
Thanks for this. Looks to me like Garcia shoulder-checks Hull sideways, pushing her slightly forward and towards the rail. Hull struggles to recover her balance. In doing so. it looks to me that extending her arm forward and forcefully striking Hailu in the back was not a necessary, inevitable action that naturally followed from the contact with Garcia. Had a Hull DQ been given, it would have been warranted, imo. It wasn't so...life goes on.

Good post.
If a runner is pushed, he doesn't get to grab the clothing of another runner on the way down.
Don't make your loss of balance another runner's problem.
I really appreciate what Karalis does. He could easily take his silver and push up his PR a but, but he always moves the bar up, and gets damn close which puts some pressure on Mondo. He's a true competitor, but always ends the competition with a smile on his face. I'll always you for this guy.

Smart analysis there.
Just because it is a reflex to push out your arm doesn't mean it's OK to shove another runner to the ground. Loss of control or not, there is in fact an explicit obligation to not impede others. (And Hailu was pretty damn impeded.) Otherwise people could "reflexively" lash out sideways and in front of them at every contact.
It wouldn't be a shocking DQ, that's for sure.
But it was within the range of things that are "let go." (In some circumstances more than others.)

YES!
One of those guys who would be a dominant world #1, in the absence of another even more incredible athlete.
Who continues to pursue greatness and improve, as you note here with an obvious path to silver and a likely PB, but instead going for broke. All in great spirits.
Congrats to Kerr, very well raced but let’s be fair, if Ingebrit was there he’d have obliterated the lot of them and the times would have been a lot quicker
get well soon Jacob. Races are much duller without you
Yeah! Just like he did in 2023 and 2024 in the outdoor 1500!! Wait
