Naming an accused pedophile to be attorney general is just par for the course for this guy.
The guy who accused Gaetz, in return for a reduced sentence, Greenberg has been convicted of child trafficking, thieving, and several other crimes.
The Garland DOJ investigated Gaetz and did not indict.
If you care about the facts
The hypocrisy in you citing a Garland prosecution decision with approval is not lost on anyone here who actually exercises logic and reason, or who bothers to read and educate themselves on facts. Whether you know it or not, you undermine your essentially nonexistent credibility when you do that.
I also think that it is a bad pick for Trump on a personal level. Trump tends to be reckless and doesn't know the law very well. His own hide and his ability to be effective are enhanced when there is someone knowledgeable and sober who will stop him from doing things at at stupid or illegal. Whatever their other flaws, the AGs in his first administration tended to do that. In Gaetz, Trump would have an AG at least as reckless a Trump, probably with less reliable instincts than Trump, an insufficient legal background to know when he and his boss are crossing the line.
I don't think Trump expects Gaetz to become the next AG. He appointed Gaetz for two reasons.
1. Because this pick is so outrageous, the institutionalists in GOP will be likely to confirm Trump's next pick by saying "at least he is not Matt Gaetz." It could be J6 insurrection co-conspirator Jeffrey Clark or someone like him.
2. He is trying to divert people's attention away from his other picks like Gabbard for DNI. Gabbard could be confirmed because at least she is "not as bad as Gaetz." Or if that does not work, he could nominate someone equally pro-Putin and the GOP Senators will say "at least he/she is not Tulsi Gabbard."
A lot of speculation in there. I really doubt that Trump plays that much 4D chess. Occam says Trump picked Gaetz because he wants Gaetz to be his Attorney General.

Garland DOJ clearly would have indicted Gaetz if there was any evidence.
That's common sense.
Since when it is hypocritical to use common sense?
By the way. On your writing. Less is more. Way too many adjectives.
Convicted fraudster Joel Greenberg, who cooperated extensively with the Justice Department’s sex-trafficking probe into GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in prison by a federal judge in Florida.
