No choice? That was always the plan: both Ritz and Schumacher believe the best way to run time trials is to negative split. Norris was tasked with taking them through 5k in 15:06.5, and in actuality she ran 15:08. Obviously this was not “too slow for any records,” since Monson and McColgan both set NRs and Monson lowered the AR by ten seconds. The pacing was good and Norris did her job well.
