Alberto Salazar BANNED For Life for "Sexual Misconduct"

Equating his weight comments as "sexual" misconduct and branding him with that term forever...isn't that a defamation case just waiting to be filed?

seems messed up that a woman deciding if she wants to be coached by salazar is just told this with no substance as to the allegations or evidence against him.

don't feel like it really makes women or anyone safer to just have this scarlet letter on him with no further information that he can lie to others about with no accountability, or be unfairly tarnished by.

and, to be clear, he can coach once his WADA ban is over, right? he just can't get coach credentials at USATF/USOC events?

Now see, that's the problem duck. There IS substance. No one is seriously contesting that AlSal didn't body shame his runners, at least Cain and some others. This issue is being branded with the term "sexual" misconduct, and then banning him for life because of his body shaming. There are hundreds of other coaches who have committed that offense. This seems unfair on its merits.

FYI, Mary's lawsuit states as "facts":

a) That defendant Salazar had committed sexual misconduct with another athlete;

b) That defendant Salazar had possessed and trafficked testosterone in violation of anti-doping regulations;

c) That defendant Salazar had experimented with athletes on how far he could push the envelope with performance enhancers without getting caught by anti-doping regulatory bodies;

d) That defendant Salazar used female athlete’s weight as the primary performance variable, and commented negatively on female athletes’ bodies, commenting on their “asses” and “boobs” as being too large; and required runners to weigh themselves publicly and discuss weight publicly as a matter of course;

I have no doubt that hundreds, perhaps thousands of coaches have commented about overly large boobs and asses, which are fatty parts of the human body. Most of these were coaching amateurs, possibly minors. In this case, everyone is a professional. How can this be the SOLE grounds to take away a person's career? Sexual misconduct sounds to any average person like groping, fondling and/or inappropriate touching. Emotional misconduct was removed from his record? That was the major thing that Mary Cain accused him of. So he was found NOT to have committed that upon appeal? WTF?

Salazar is only banned for his earthly life. If he repents and finds favor with God, he will be able to coach in the life eternal. His punishment isn't so onerous when you think about it in this context.

You are commenting on point d). Read point a) again. Those are two different points. Point d) is thus not "the SOLE grounds", according to Cain, and it might or might not be part of Salazar's egregious sexual misconduct.

It appears the term Sexual Misconduct under the SafeSport definition is so overly broad that comments about a big ass (and such) can get a coach banned for life from all official USATF functions, effectively destroying a man's ability to earn a living in his chosen field of expertise. And especially if they throw in the hostile environment element, which they clearly did. Yes. All coaches are on notice now. AlSal was just made an example of. Nice.

In the totality of the sport, he did more harm, than good. It would've been better for all if he'd never picked up a pair of racing shoes.

The title is misleading. There shouldn’t be quotation marks used. Quotation marks indicate tongue in cheek inference. In fact, those charges are absolutely what got him banned.

Perhaps….. Maybe it was everything else, too. The BS TUEs for many of his athletes, the rubbing test cream on his kids, sending “supplements” to Dumbo in a cut out book. There’s probably much more.

He’s simply shady. The sport needs clean and honest coaches and competitors, not his kind and his lab monkeys. All of his and his athletes’ records should be erased.
