Ironically, it seems he didn't cheat nearly enough at this race for it to be believable. A 2:53 marathoner is capable of much faster than a 20:25 5k. This was just a marathon-pace training run for him (or practice for future "runs").
agree completely. Cheating isn't a perfect science but he sure as heck tried.
That was an easy one for me. Hopped over from the first half mile to mile 2, took a dump and stretched, then skipped on over to mile 3 for the finish. Didn't even need the Three Amigos for that one. Ah the good ole days.

Hot Damn! Check out his Dipsea results. 1995, a 17:58 pace. 2009, a 13:05 pace. 2010, an 8:01 pace. 2013, an 11:12 pace. Comparatively, that 2010 result looks a little sketchy.

I just don't think many people considered that this guy was cheating.
Prior to the now famous BQ meltdown cheater and Marathon Investigation, it honestly never occurred to me that age groupers would cheat at running/triathlon. I see a lot of super minor cheating in triathlon (cutting cones (yards off the course), drafting when no one is looking, and other super minor and silly infractions). Honestly, I can't say that I've ever actually seen it done intentionally in a running race though.
Everyone I've ever trained with or competed against runs because they enjoy the sport and competition, and/or want to stay fit. Part of the fun is the challenge of planning a training schedule and pushing your body to its physical limits. It never occurred to me that people were hiring "bib mules" and cutting courses to qualify for Boston or post silly nonsense on social media. Even in failure, I still take pride in the work that was put in. I don't see what one would get from cheating to a achieve a time or qualifying standard.
Prior to the advent of MI, I would've taken cheaters' claims at face value.

Agree, money can corrupt a run as easily as any other activity.
Looks like an easy course to cut/bike at! From the video, he is behind the 1:45 pace group sign/pacer that goes past. Also, runner # 1236 goes past, has a clock differential of 44" and runs a 1:47, then you can see runner 1329 go past, runs a 1:41 and has a clock differential of 47", then you see Frank sneak past with a clock differential of 49" and blows past tons of people to run a 1:26! Keep in mind, that somewhere while running sub 7 minute miles as a 70 year old, he manages to take off the hoodie plus pass all the people he was behind...
