They give a description of the efficacy calculation in the second paragraph of the "Statistical Analyis" section:

Plugging in the numbers from Table 2

efficacy = 100% x (1 - (9 vaccine cases / 2.332 years) / (169 placebo cases / 2.345 years)) gives 94.67%

If the vaccine group had the same result as the placebo group, the expectation is that IRR would go to 1 and efficacy to 0%.

strictly "years" should be "1000 person-years", but that doesn't affect the ratio.

Alright, you guys know Rick Gaetz is one of the POS I detest the most. I’ve been sounding off about this garbage for years as he is known for evading the law. It’s been making more and more sense that he was the only Congressman who voted against human trafficking legislation. We still have no idea how he came to be in the possession of Nestor, a minor child at the time, without following legal channels. He instead hid him from public.

I thought the above article was going to be about Nestor, but wow. Keep in mind this investigation was started by trump’s admin, so to get to that point it must be pretty bad. I had heard about Gaetz and Greenberg a long time ago, and about him doing political harassment on Gaetz’ behalf.

Thanks for the clarification! I still don't understand why that is the method for calculating efficacy but that's clearly my own problem, as I don't work with statistics or vaccines. I incorrectly used a simplified calculation, so hopefully this highlights the importance of sharing all of the data behind these vaccine studies.

It may not be, but it pushes it closer to the edge of the cliff. This minor change may translate to thousands of people who had trouble standing in line for 5 hours under previous voter suppression rules, and now may opt out as the line conditions just became more difficult. You know most of those voters are likely to be minorities based on the counties they live in, and of course they are likely to vote democrat. This water thing is such a joke! The rule is about electioneering, that's it! This is common in most states and is a non-issue.
