McConnell was a staunch defender of the filibuster when he had the chance (and Trump begged him) to remove it.

It has become pretty obvious that you’re an idiot.
The law does not prohibit anyone from giving a person something to drink. People who are waiting in line are free to walk a mere 25 feet to have someone give them a drink.
You’re too stupid to understand that though.
That is called a restriction. It says you cannot be given water within 25 feet of the line. In other words, it is ILLEGAL to be given water while in line. If you are 25 feet away from the line you are not in line. That exact distance was inserted for a reason. Put your third tier school education to work for once.
And if you get out of line you risk losing your place in line. Plus, if you get out of line after the poll has closed you can be denied your right to vote.

50% effectiveness means that there are half as many cases in the vaccine group as the control group. Annual flu vaccines are typically in the 40 to 60% effectiveness range.
Looking back at the data (copied straight from the Pfizer study) I realize that I did confuse efficacy with effectiveness, but that does not change the methodology:
https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2034577Using data from Table 2 in the linked paper, 9 subjects in the vaccine group tested positive for coronavirus and 169 subjects in the placebo group tested positive for coronavirus.
9/(9+169) = 5.06% (the chart says 94.6% efficacy and I admit that I don't understand the slight difference).
If I'm wrong I'll gladly admit to being wrong, as it would make me feel better about those vaccines, but my understanding is that 50% efficacy means 50% of positive cases came from the vaccine group.
Effectiveness is measured in the real-world setting instead of a controlled trial, and it's usually lower. So perhaps that is the reason that flu vaccines are a lower effectiveness.
They give a description of the efficacy calculation in the second paragraph of the "Statistical Analyis" section:
Vaccine efficacy was estimated by 100×(1−IRR), where IRR is the calculated ratio of confirmed cases of Covid-19 illness per 1000 person-years of follow-up in the active vaccine group to the corresponding illness rate in the placebo group.
Plugging in the numbers from Table 2
efficacy = 100% x (1 - (9 vaccine cases / 2.332 years) / (169 placebo cases / 2.345 years)) gives 94.67%
If the vaccine group had the same result as the placebo group, the expectation is that IRR would go to 1 and efficacy to 0%.

strictly "years" should be "1000 person-years", but that doesn't affect the ratio.

Gosh, no wonder Rs hate the NYT, always prying into their criming.
Alright, you guys know Rick Gaetz is one of the POS I detest the most. I’ve been sounding off about this garbage for years as he is known for evading the law. It’s been making more and more sense that he was the only Congressman who voted against human trafficking legislation. We still have no idea how he came to be in the possession of Nestor, a minor child at the time, without following legal channels. He instead hid him from public.
I thought the above article was going to be about Nestor, but wow. Keep in mind this investigation was started by trump’s admin, so to get to that point it must be pretty bad. I had heard about Gaetz and Greenberg a long time ago, and about him doing political harassment on Gaetz’ behalf.
Why do we keep seeing more and more Rs turning out to be open criminals and gangsters? WTF is wrong with you trumpers for supporting these people?
“The inquiry is part of a larger probe into Joel Greenberg, a tax collector in Florida associated with Gaetz who was charged last year with 14 felony counts related to allegations that he stalked a political opponent, used a state database to create fake IDs, and sex trafficked a minor between the ages of 14 and 17.”
LOLz and then of course...

Gotta love how he tried to get ahead of the fallout by saying he was planning to leave Congress anyway. This MFer is guilty.
Sally, ready to call one of your heroes out? 😂

meanwhile, bbc reports the important stuff;
Joe Biden puts Kamala Harris in charge of the border ... Since then have we heard her say ANYTHING about ANYTHING happening down there??? What has she done about the crisis down there? And when asked if she is going to visit the border, she laughs. Kids are in cages down there, the Biden administration won't allow pics to be taken, and she laughs. Who are the idiot Liberals who support the way Biden has been handling the situation? You Gina..? Fat Hurts? I know you. Agip??

Ha, you are losing it, must be from all your confusion trying to keep up with dozens of your own personas. As Gina said before, check my IP and ban me for life we are the same, lol. I've said long ago that I never ever post under other names. I have not and see no reason to start now. You just seem butthurt that there are two people still running victory laps after your glorious defeat.
Now back to the important stuff - anything to say about Gaetz' alleged sex trafficking? Are you ok with him sleeping with minors and taking in Cuban migrant men illegally? You know, issues you supposedly really care about.

Thanks for the clarification! I still don't understand why that is the method for calculating efficacy but that's clearly my own problem, as I don't work with statistics or vaccines. I incorrectly used a simplified calculation, so hopefully this highlights the importance of sharing all of the data behind these vaccine studies.

It may not be, but it pushes it closer to the edge of the cliff. This minor change may translate to thousands of people who had trouble standing in line for 5 hours under previous voter suppression rules, and now may opt out as the line conditions just became more difficult. You know most of those voters are likely to be minorities based on the counties they live in, and of course they are likely to vote democrat. To summarize, Rs only want to limit democracy and have no short term incentive to help more people vote. In a state like GA, the GOP is effectively preventing a close result in Dems' favor.
Bring your own water. Problem solved.
Next idiot.

This water thing is such a joke! The rule is about electioneering, that's it! This is common in most states and is a non-issue.
