US:
Cases: Up 16%
Deaths: New cyclical low (988)
So far we're hanging in there but it's only been 13 days since the low in cases. We'd expect deaths to start building after 3 weeks. So around April 10 death count data will be particularly important.
US vaccinations hitting PRs every day. Up to 2.8 mn per day and steadily rising.
Unlike the US, the world is a complete disaster.
Cases up 55% from a Feb 19 low
Deaths up 14% from a March 13 low
Last year, deaths peaked in mid to late April due to seasonal factors affecting transmission. The fact that we have had declining deaths since January is an indicator that we are well on the way to herd immunity either thru vaccine or wild exposure over the holidays. Most of the new deaths globally are coming from Europe (due to variants and a lack of vaccination except in the UK) and South America (in particular Brazil, but also due to their move into fall weather). Unfortunately the cheap Chinese Sinovac / Sinopharm vaccines that many countries are relying on to get out of the pandemic have been largely failures in the countries they have been deployed in large numbers (Chile, UAE, Seychelles, etc.).
