Henry Rono training for masters mile record. PART II

Track athletes don't sell shoes like basketball players... true.

Not many old timers have sponsors... true.

Henry could get a job teaching... true, but I think a good, conscientious teacher has a lot less free time than you might think.

Henry has had a checkered past... true, some through fault of his own, some not.

And yet I (and perhaps at least a few other regular posters) think that Henry has had and is having a remarkable story, and if I had a company or were in a position to help him out, I sure as hell would. Who wouldn't want to be associated with one of the all-time greats?

And let's not forget that, aside from his current training camp, Henry does his coaching for free. Could he charge for it? Sure he could (and perhaps should), but that wouldn't be Henry.

I am "Ghost of Igloi" not "Ghost." I do not take offense if your comments are dircted toward me. I did want to make one point. It is Henry that is posting his training, and it is Henry that has made repeated solicitations to support his endeavor. If Henry garners criticism, constructive or otherwise, who is to blame?

Amen to that. Thankfully, most business entities recognize the financial irresponsibility in sponsorship of this nature, although more power to Henry if he can find someone to ante up. Amazingly, there are a number of athlete's who ARE running well past 55 years of age. I would take the example set by a Nolan Shaheed, Gary Romesser or Thom Burleson over a Dean K. any day. These guys are STILL running sub 5 minute miles or sub 17 minute 5K's! Performance wise, that is a much greater accomplishment than marketing-driven notoriety of Dean K.

If I was a potential sponsor, I would have to see Henry lose 20 lbs before I would be inclined to consider investing in him.

It is all up me yeah!Remember I can't training and teach it is impossible. Being around sp.ed. kids,yelling and screaming all day takes all the strength of an athlete like me, who is humble to kids.I takein their feelings and it hurts my nerves.After that,you just get home, eat alot sleep alot and you gain alot weights up to 225 lbs.

I don't want to do that again.I just want to teach running and I'm learning to charge them.Why do you think I invented ISI program? It is, this reason, I choose to train this year and start my running school.I like this discussion it is an enlightment to me.

I will start charging all my athletes all kinds of money in the world.

I like you all input.We are getting ready to go and run the hills now.

I got a sponsor that he does it the other way round.I mean does it to lose 20 lbs.He is not waiting for me to lose 20 lbs.That is how I do it in my own philosophy.I train people to get in shape then pay me.After results.Is that make sense at all for you?

The 374 day of training phase II. I ran for 42 minutes and the evening section was 24 minutes.

The 375 day of training phase II. I ran for 82 minutes I felt so much better than yesterday.

The evening section was great too, I think my quads is healing up,icing it up is my medication.

The old man has alot of injuries in hamstrings and quads imflamations and soreness that it needs to be suck by cold ice.

My problem is being lazy otherwise I can get heal over night as I did in Carlsbad,in which I was icing up all-night before the race.

I did even ice up my belly and the budd.That is why I was flying in the following morning race as a wild Tiger in the juggle.

are you still planning on running in the World Masters Championships in September or is that pretty much 'off the table' now, due to injuries and your progress stalling out the past 2 months?

The 376 day of training phase II.19mwp + 60mhc + 20mcd =99 minutes.

We had great work out in the copper hills today.

We have one long run tomorrow for 90 minutes easy.

That will be it.

I made some good money $300 that is great for Henry Rono for the first time to hold training camp.Any question on that?

Of course are you kidding me. I'm feeling great that is the most important thing and today my feet were really moving forward very well today.I was chellenging the youth going up the hill and running on plate terrain.I'm still holding my cards close to my chest for execusion for breaking one mile world record.Just hold your breath.

OK...good news.... I was was going off that last race (6:21 mile), the injuries you've been fighting in the legs and the 25 lbs overweight, still. But if YOU say you are heading there and all systems are go, then I'm happy to hear it! I guess your next race will need to be in a couple of weeks or so?
