Any updates on the UW-River Falls Cross Country job? They hired a lady for Track and Field but nothing about CC on her job title.

What are the dues that must be paid?

How many years must they be paid for?

Are you required to have not been a good athlete?

If you are mentored by a coach in a top program, is that a black mark for the “dues paying” crowd?

Word on the street is that the Stanford track team plans to protest the choice depending on who it is

The Stanford staff has a nice core with Eskind and Sanders who have been there a while, Amin came in and kept the magic going. But the majority of the team likes the current culture and the team has kept improving the past couple years. This is all done with the majority of the scholarships going to distance.

If we were all as lucky as Brad. Why so bad for the guy who posted about Petros? Petros was looking for a clipboard holder and got one to replace one.

That Stride Report article was painful to read. It’s literally just the same names thrown on here and painted up like they were the first to say them out loud. VanHoy are you serious?! The amount of press that guy gets for being an assistant coach is absolutely unbelievable. BAS!?!? I’m puking over her thinking they think she’d be a decent pick at all. Once again her name even getting mentioned shows that half this thread is TSR writers making crap up. I’m a distance guy and the obvious bias in picks towards distance coaches is painfully obvious.

A good young coach on his own no coaching tree or what have you will get starts at bad schools but you should still see a pattern emerge. A noticeable impact in 2 years, from both development and recruiting. Then a better job, 2-3 years same story good development and recruiting impact. For some it will be three jobs. Then chances at a good situation. So realistically a coach with no connections or ties should show their with in about 4-5years. Now stats will show you can do this but the problem is other people saying it and not you saying it. That’s when the big job comes. When other people say you are good. So you can do great things but if you don’t have references and referrals you are screwed.

Also if you venture past 3 buildup jobs into 4 territory I hate to say it but you ain’t gonna make it unless you start kissing booty.

So in short dues= 5 or so years of progressive experience with successful development and recruiting. But knock off a year or two and the rate of success and profession can be worse if your name is on the right tongues.

Wouldn’t put it past those kids. They surely have an idea of who they want. It’ll be interesting to see their reaction to the announcement

As an experienced coach who has hired many, many assistants in their first few years in the profession, I can tell you that most expect that merely having the job and being able to put it on a resume is enough to keep moving up the ladder. Rarely have I seen a young coach who strives to make EVERYTHING they do stand out.

Dabo Sweeney said (probably quoting someone else), “If your job is to go get the doughnuts, man, you bring the freshest doughnuts and the hottest coffee, and you do it in a way that everybody notices. ‘That guy gets the best doughnuts in the history of the doughnut business.’ And that’s just how you have to do things.”

The young coaches I have come across who operate like that have always moved up.

The head position is sprints, jumps, and hurdles and typically does administrative work for cross-country. The assistant CC coach position is still in review at this point.
