I agree.
There is video online that show much different splits then those.
Funny you found a video yet those times are not from a single race, it's their season bests according to athletic.net. And they are not splits, they are 3 mile times.
Nice try though. Throw some respect on St. Charles East name.

Yeah. Nico paced mostly fine (if anything he needed to push a bit more in mile 2), it was the rest of NP that went out too hard. Lex Young did OK, to his credit as well.
Can you guys please just STFU and let these 14-18 year olds race each other and figure it out themselves?
Moving on from Clovis, what are people's thoughts on Allred and Culpepper? I remember the Milesplit guys on a webcast talking about how Colorado could have the top two places at NXN with Sprout and Culpepper. I think the thought being Culpepper was undertrained until last year, managed to run a 4:04 full mile, ran 14:43 5000m last year and had a lot of room to improve. The CO Milesplit guy said that Culpepper had told him that he was eyeing peaking at NXN, didn't plan to race until late October, and was in the best shape of his life.
Kind of seems like a joke now that Sprout lost to Daschbach, but Culpepper also got crushed recently, losing to Dylan Schubert, 15:27 to 15:51 at a conference meet. Not sure if Culpepper was sick, training through the meet, or what, but doesn't bode well for NXN hopes. Schubert is a really good runner (4A 3200m champ in CO, 14th returner from NXN) but lost to two other CO kids early in the year (Connor Ohlson, 10th at NXN last year, and Mason Norman, who just missed out on NXN last year).
As for Allred, pretty decent first race. He says he has been doing "90% cross training" until this point, but I gotta wonder if that's an exaggeration. I don't know that a kid runs 15:18 in his first race back if only 10% of his time is spent running.

“The rest of NP” went out too hard yet 4 out of the 6 of them moved up from the mile split to the finish while Nico stayed in first the entire way. Sounds more like 2 of them went out too hard. The race is not against the clock, it’s against the other runners.

Well, that's a pretty dumb way of looking at it. If you're going to reduce it to how they compared with other runners, the relevant point is that they lost a ton of ground to the only team with the ability to challenge them (and lost as a result). I don't think there can be any reasonable doubt that had their team (with the exception of Nico and Jace) ran with or behind the GO guys through 1 mile, they would've won on Saturday.
Surprised how many people are defending bad pacing. GO ran a lot smarter and beat a superior team. Period.

I believe they are more concerned with NXN than Clovis. The way they raced at Clovis will translate better at NXN than the way GO raced.

Even with the handles, is NP beyond criticism? Is someone picking on your kids or bullying them? They got beat by a team that ran a better strategy. Are they somehow more focused on NXN than GO? They came into the meet to lay it on the line and do the best they could. They were out executed and lost.
Kiddos to GO for running a smart race and hopefully NP learns from the strategic mistake.

Agreed. Try and race against the clock at NXN and end up out of the top three. It's about racing not watching the clock.
On the girls side it's wide open

yes, probably the favorites now are Great Oak, Summit, Beavercreek, FM and maybe Niwot, but Cherry Creek, S Lake Carroll and Clovis are very competitive too, and probably any one of these 8 teams could win.
Yes, let us critique ad nauseam how what a terrible race strategy the team who just set team time record at a race that has been run for decades now and seen some top all time teams. If GO racer loses5 spots and NP guy had gained 5 spots or split that difference with 3 runners on each, placing would be easily different. These two teams are very tight as far as who was better and it will be hard to say for sure how NXN will go. Move on, this is a waste.

Thank you. What are the next big races this weekend where nationally ranked teams are competing?
On the west coast is Mt Sac nest weekend, but this meet has died over the past years. We don't see the top teams anymore.
Whats on the east coast?
I think the next big meets will be the state meets, which start happening soon, though a little later in the east. One in particular on the girls side is the Colorado state meet where it looks like there are at least 4 pretty strong teams that all probably belong in Portland.

Who in the world would be those 4 Colorado teams?
