Caster Semenya update

Pretty sad when you have to cheer for a dude who won the women's race and could have run 1:51 if he had felt like it. Run a chick next time and see what happens.

I agree with this post. This isn't about the iaaf being racist, or sexist. The idea that this controversy is driven by racism is pretty out there. There are many current African world champions, and Semenya is the one whose gender is being tested. The reason for the controversy is not that Semenya is African; she was tested with testosterone 3 times the average female according to this article:

This does not in any way equate to a failed drug test, or prove that she isn't female. It also doesn't prove that she was cheating she very well might not be. If she's always believed she was a woman it's hard to fault her for competing as one, even if they decide she isn't fully female. But the testosterone levels, combined with the huge improvement in performances warrant a test I think. If she's fully female she's got nothing to hide anyways. I agree that the test should have been more confidential, but to play the race card, and even saying that this is about sexism... I fail to see the logic behind any of that.

Says who? There is actually no IAAF rule that says a man cannot enter a woman's race.So if person Caster turns out to be a man: person Caster should be allowed to keep the medal

If you were to ignore IAAF rule 147 (http://www.iaaf.org/mm/Document/AboutIAAF/Publications/04/87/90/20081229021635_httppostedfile_CompetitionRules2009-Eng_7874.pdf) that doesn't allow a man to enter a woman's race, then yes, you would be correct that there is no IAAF rule that says a man can not enter a woman's race.

So you would bar someone from competition simply because you didn't like how they looked?

You do realize that until about three weeks before Worlds she hadn't run any kind of time that would show up on the international radar. Or would you advocate a new position at the IAAF (maybe you'll volunteer?) to go around to meets throughout the world searching for people you don't like the look of (regardless of their performance) and labeling them as not eligible to compete?

I don't know the time frame of when he became suspect, but if the South African Federation was told at least months before the World Champs, and they did not produce the evidence that he was a she, then yes, the IAAF has every right to block his entry.

I don't know the details, but I believe that S. Africa was asked to produce some evidence prior to the Championships.

and if Semenya is a boy, then the medals should be distributed, ain't no human rights in sport - she is a he.
