Why I think Jakob was doped, not Cole
1. Doping laws: the USA is far stricter on doping than Norway. The USADA has banned hundreds of athletes for life, including massive names like Lance Armstrong and Barry Bonds. In contrast, Norway's anti-doping agency employs just 34 people and has only banned one athlete.
2. The way they ran the race. Stimulants increase your energy more than your endurance (which is why you see more sprinters doping than 10kers). With this in mind, Jakob's seemingly incongruous strategy makes a whole lot more sense: he was using up his extra energy to build up his lead. In contrast, Hocker's strategy, hanging around in 5th place and making a move, is more what we see from runners who have pace but not an abundance of energy.
3. Jakob has gone on the record in a TIMES interview saying he knows a "genius way of cheating" that "won't get caught by regular testing"
4. Jakobs best time (done less than one month ago) is only behind Absel Kiprop (4 year ban for doping), Bernard Lagat (tested positive for EPO), and Hicham El Guerrouj (25 of his teammates caught and banned, runs 3:27 and barely sweats)
Conclusive? No. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is exposed in the next couple of years.
