finial entries for tomorrow is out! marlee starliper will run her first 5000m, hannah steelman will run again for a faster 5000m time, giona quarzo and mariah howlett also in the mix, savannah shaw and bush are also entered but they will be running 1500m
Starliper has pacing duties. Probably won’t finish
she has to get 5000m qualifying time
I’m not sure they are trying to get her a qualifying time but getting Hannah a better time and getting Tuohy qualified. I think they are going to do with Starliper what they did with Tuohy last year……Have her focus on the 1500 to get her foot speed back and keep her healthy, so she is ready for summer training and CC. They had Tuohy pace the 5000 at Raleigh relays last year for her teammates and to get a workout. They have to have Starliper up with Chmiel and Tuohy in the fall or there is no way they can repeat.
I think last year Tuohy could have qualified for Nationals in the 5000, but coming off injury they were thinking long term and wanted her to get her speed and strength back so she was ready for the fall. If this was the plan, it worked perfect when you look at the year Tuohy is having. She is back to herself, and hopefully this plan works for Starliper To get back to herself.

She ran both 1500 and 5000 at East regionals and did not advance in either

Starliper should start racing longer distances for her body to be able to get used to it. XC season will be a lot tougher, I believe she will race the 5000m.
Ugh! that meet was nasty.. All Wolfpack runners ran so off from their times but glad tuohy was sent home early.. after that, she worked her a** off in the summer szn, came back at nc state w six packs
She was still coming back from her injury and had not been able to put in a full year of training. But that meet was still an outlier. Supposedly there was illness involved, but who knows. I was not expecting her to do much last year, thinking it would take a another year to get back. But advancing to nationals would have been a good experience.
This sets up quite intriguing for the 5k Tonite 9pm. With 8 runners in the field, NC State can control the pace. With Starliper possibly assigned to pacing, and Moreno, Shaw, Bush doubling back from the earlier 1500, that's 4 potential rabbits! We could see Moreno thru 1600, Shaw thru 2400, Bush thru 2800, Starliper thru 3200 in 9:50, then unleashing Steelman as leadout and Tuohy for the close. That could get Touhy in the 15:15 range. (I'm not sure if Steelman is fully fit yet.)
I could be wrong, and they just target 15:45 qualifiers with Tuohy helping Steelman (and the chase pack of Howlett/Quarzo/Starliper? to break 16.).
Either way, you don't often see this many bodies for team tactics.
If they run her in the 1500 at all at regionals that would be malpractice. The schedule at nationals makes that impossible if you have any chance of winning the 5000.
She actually had a pretty good chance at 5000m if they did not let her run in 1500m at regionals
she had to run 2 1500m races then a 5000m.. and I guess what, I think they will be doing that again this year 💀
so cool but also hard.. that's going to be tough but tuohy tough! I support her if that's her decision
Time to have some fun now! The thread says Tuohy 5000m prediction. So here is my prediction for tonight’s race…..Tuohy runs 15:16 and makes a statement!

100% agree unless somehow they think she is ready for 4:05 and thus could win the thing. Hocker did the double and managed to get 4th in the 5000, but was never competing for the win. He also said it was very tough to come back after the 1500 final. I don't see today being a fast time. My guess is 15:50 pace and then Tuohy and Steelman accellerate and finish closer to 15:40. That should easily qualify. Starliper and Quarzo should work together to try to finish around 16:00.

I don't think there is that much time between the fast 1500 heat and the fast 5000. Asking Bush to go through 3200 at 9:50 might be a lot. But, maybe I am reading the heat order wrong.
This time will be hard to predict because we have no clue what the team's goals are. My guess is they will just go for a qualifying time and move on. But I would like to see her coach give her the green light to run a fast time. It is not the ideal venue for it with very crowded track, but I tend to think there is a psychological benefit in PR'ing and given the athlete a sense of what they can do. Then again Henes ran that 15:18 last year with even splits. Anything below 15:30 in this race would be excellent.
I'm being hypothetical, especially since Starliper not for sure a pacer. Who knows all 3 rabbits could just go thru the mile in 455-500 and be done. I'm just more curious as with so many pacers and Steelmann, you could set it up like a bike race.
There are 28 in field, but no superstars. It's to everyone's benefit to follow state.

I guess, but I don't think so. They could set it up with one pacer to go through 2000 at 6:10 leading Tuohy and another going through at 6:20 or 9:30 (3k) for Steelman I guess but I don't see it. Time will tell.
