Of course some papers sad "bad" things about the Irish or Italians. The poorest of the poor were coming back then. However, they quickly assimilated since they were from a similar European background.
Is there evidence of poor assimilation by East Asians? They don't have a similar culture? What about Mexicans?

The US has assimilation tons of different cultures over the years. I see no evidence that the current crop will be any different other than fear of the unknown, which is prevalent among boomers and midwits (feel free to self identify).
