I'm not even a coach- just someone who's followed the PAC for many many yrs and disappointed to see the downfall of the ASU program the past 5 yrs. Calling a spade a spade- that program should easily recruit girls cause of the warm climate and their tradition, yet they can't get out of their slump.
ASU men, Greg Kraft has cut scholarships on the men's distance.
ASU women, Ryan cole in his first three years as a head coach went 1 for 3 in his women's teams making the national meet and coached a national champion. 99% of coaches don't do that in their lifetime.
Not a great move for a young coach. If he's really that good, should have held out for a better job. Your never going to win a trophy at Air Force although they have some good talent right now. Women are awful.

Maybe the guy just preferred to live and work in Colorado Springs over Phoenix. Phoenix is a difficult place to live if you are from the midwest. Incredibly hot and bad air quality are not fun.
Also, I know someone that interviewed and the pay was pretty good at Air Force, probably higher than what he was getting paid at ASU.

You really must not follow very closely or have no idea all the factors that go into building a program. Ryan is not the boss. He doesn't call the shots on scholarshipping athletes. Ryan coached an NCAA national champion as well as a sub 34 min 10k girl. ASU was a top 25 team in the country last year but were the first ones out in the West (if you have actually paid attention you would know how tough the west is in xc). Lot of haters but anyone who knows the game knows Ryan has done a great job.

With the recent news coming to light, I guess it makes a bit more sense why ND hasn't named their coach yet. AD has had his hands full.

So what- women have 18 scholarships. ASU used to regularly beat Arizona and Oregon (Arizona was regularly at the bottom of the PAC with USC), and they got beat by San Francisco. There's no excuses for being a mediocre team.

Haha, I got that. Did the assistant take another gig, or does McDaniel have an additional coaching billet to fill? Will it be another distance coach, or are they looking to compete in other events? Is there an inside candidate?

Announcement coming very soon. I mean have any of you people heard of HR or background checks? You just can't say ok I want you here and in a blink of and eye you are there... doesn't work that way folks.
The position was offered and accepted roughly two weeks ago just waiting on HR and the background check to check out... All is good in the land of the Irish!

Portland State position has not even been posted and it has been almost 2 weeks!!!
Since most universities are public institutions, things have to go through Human Resources.
Posting a position on Letsrun is not considered a legitimate job availability .
Job vacancies have to be processed through a school's human resources dept and can be time consuming (they work 9-5, Monday-Friday)
So relax; your precious job posting will be available soon.

Time enough for applicant to consider offer
Position accepted
Hire must go through background check

Only THEN will the team members have a coach

Here's one for you. A job was accepted two weeks ago that wasn't posted anywhere.
The word got out that an AC was moving to the "private sector" and calls were made. That's it, nothing else.

Not impressed, have you lived in Phoenix Arizona? It 100+ for 8months of the year. The air quality is awful and there are few soft surfaces to train on. The team was better when Drenth was the coach in the early 2000's and Quintana carried that on for a bit. They are well rounded with throws, sprints, distance unlike AZ who is heavy distance and Oregon that is Nike U and has used that to their advantage recently. Ryan Cole was starting to build his team. They would have been good in 2014 cross. Trust me when a recruit comes to visit in mid October and it's 100 degrees they think twice about where they want to go to school. Plus when you drag them to 5:30 practice they wonder why would I do this.
U of A averages 5 or so degrees cooler with better places to train then phoenix/Tempe.
