Henry ran a 6:24 -- I agree with everyone else though, he is a gentleman and was very gracious (a lot of people wanted to take pictures and talk with him).

Is it time to admit that the title of this thread is not realistic now? Nothing wrong with that, but, let's be honest. He didn't (or hasn't cared) about losing those last 25 lbs and get serious about competing at the top level that this thread talks about. Where does he go from here?
sounds like that 4:40 mile and the world championships in Sept are his for the asking! keep it going. You are the man!

The 364 day of training phase II.This morning in Nashville,I ran with a group of Nashville running community. It is a nice city for training. It looks like the place I used to training in Cologne,Germany in the summer of 1981,before I broke my last world record in the 5000m.
I was sore this morning dragging my right leg.The sharp pain is there in the quads,I think I push it hard last night, that is why it is so sensitive.
I didn't feel it in the morning warm up;however,at the race, right from the get go only after 150 meters, I felt the sharp pain,so I started making short strides until I close in with 6:24 minutes. There were no way I could follow the pace setter. However,I was please to see him do his job.In the end of the race, he out kick me and that was great!I was happy for him.It is the way sport works.
People were very please to have me in nashville.I could see the mass of people cheering for me and that is what it matters.I was very happy for them seeing my action as a winner. I have won many races before. They were no reason to doubt me.Because they who I'am.Not only what I see from people I also do teach my thinking to stay focus and be please in what I get on a daily bases.
I do live in one day at the time. What I get now is mine.I don't live on the past.I live on now. Most people do understand me very well are the people have positive reaction on my work.
Perhaps one or two people might think I should be missarable as if I'm a kid, if I didn't do well in this meet. That is why I come in as a teacher in the running world in this 21st century.
I know they want me to win;however, they need to take what I can give them. And the Nashville people did it.I was very happy as they were.
I'm back on my training camp.www.team-rono.com and please say what you think of my work. What is your suggestions and opinions?

Since you asked for opinions I will give you mine. I think you have had a great season and you should feel proud of what you have done. But if I were you I would stop racing for a couple of months at least and focus on two things getting healthy and losing weight. I would do this by
1. Returning to easy running until the pain is gone.
2. Do quad strengthening exercises and hamstring strengthening exercises.
3. When you feel no pain, start incorporating strides into your runs a couple of times a week.
4. Make the #1 priority in your training be losing weight. Carrying all that extra weight is straining your body too much and you know you won't be able to run like you want until you lose it.
5. I think since you haven't been able to lose it in this past year you need outside help. You need to have somebody who is there close to you and who sees you every day help you with this problem.
I have been where you are. I was running a lot and the weight stayed the same. I thought that running was enough to change my weight but it wasn't. I had to drastically change my eating habits and I think you do too. But I know that reading it on the internet won't change it for you. I suggest you find somebody you trust to help you.
I hope you are able to accomplish what you want and that you have a great future.
Henry:
I watched you run in Nashville. You showed such graciousness after the race speaking and taking pictures with everyone. It may get old for you but it obviously meant much to your fans. My 9 year old son, who raced in the 600m kids race, spoke with you briefly and had his picture made with you (I was not even with him when he went to meet you). He wanted me to tell him all about you. He is another of the new generation of fans you are developing now as you continue to be a great ambassador for the sport of running. Thanks.
What changes did you make to your eating habits? My current weight and racing weight are similar to Henry's. After several years of almost no running I started up again and lost 12 lbs. pretty quickly and easily but seem to be stuck at my current weight.
To mod
Thanks for what you have said.I look forward to hear from you again and your kids.
Henry
To zatopek
Great to hear from you understand the psychology behind it;however,as we speak I'm in critical point in regards of being fame again, especially after Carlsbad 5k race 17:48 minutes. After that I went through alot of weird life as I did in 1978.The whole world was back as I'm a new kid in town. One mention that, "I thought you were dead." In the last two months it has been a roller coster and painfull financially living, but I stay brave and I don't go to alcohol no matter how painful it is pinching my neck.I have to be a Nandi warrior to make it in my life.
Henry
Henry,
I think you're missing the point somewhat. Most of the followers of this thread - myself included - care less about your short-term race results, and more that you have turned your life around and are now being an ambassador for the sport.
Telling your story, not racing, is what will help you financially. Take zatopek's advice. People won't forget you if you take a few months off racing. I know how precious your running is to you. Don't let an injury rob you of your new-found joy.
Dave
Telling my story in what way?
People knows my story they can it from the book'Olympic Dream'
I don't have time to tell my story;however,no one understand me anyway.I know what you mean.I would not allowed any one to tell my story because they always set you for failure.Until I do it myself as a guest speaker where I face the audience. The people can hear my voice and my heart speaking through my own vocal code, but having a writer to do it on a paper. It doesn't mean anything other than a piece of paper for sale to make money for others not me.It doesn't help any one other than creating more confussions has it has been in the past.
People needs to go back and read the Track & Field of December 1976.'His Running Speaks for Him'the title of the story I was three months old in the United States. To these dates writers keep coming to me for what? They don't know what have been doing and they will never know what I'm up to until I speak out loud. Why? Because I want people to hear my hurts.Read my summary of 'Olympic Dream' book on
page 2.
Thanks and cheers.
Henry
henry: just take the next week off from running; get alot of thearapy for your injuries and start eating nothing but chicken and vegetables and green tea (plus a vitamin) for the next 3 weeks. This will get your metabolism jumpstarted to finally losing some weight, while your injuries heal.
YOu must take the time to take care of those 2 things NOW, like others have said, already; otherwise you will be dragging an anchor behind you all summer and never see the results that you know you are cabable of, if you are healty and 155 lbs. Good luck. You know what you must do....just do it instead of all of this double-talk; good luck; you have a lot of people pulling for you, but you must help yourself!

Dude..according to Henry's testimonial here at the "Million Dollar" Body website
http://www.milliondollarbody.com/bbst/homepage.php?homepage_Username=teamrono&v=1Henry says he is following "the P90X Nutrition Plan to fuel my workouts and use the meal replacement shakes, P90X Peak Health Formula Multivitamins and P90X Peak Performance Bars." He has apparently lost another 6lb in the month since starting it.
On one of his own websites "Henry Rono - a story of triumph" --
http://www.team-rono.com-- he says he is coaching runners online and "I am helping people to lose weight and be fit and to succeed with me".
So I guess we should assume he knows what he is doing...
except that, as previously reported here, he has also recently started doing the P90X exercise system to strengthen himself and improve flexibility. This system is extreme, to say the least. If he is doing that, AND running hours up and downhill everyday (what was the last session -- more than 4 hours ?!?!??), AND coaching athletes, AND studying, AND putting his book together AND racing...well, I'm not surprised he's injured.
So I agree: Henry, please take a week off EVERYTHING and just rest!

Is there some reason that you don't get a job there in town? At least one that would pay your main bills?
Henry, why don't you find a job, at least part time?
Everybody has to work, including you.
That's what all of us do.
