Henry Rono training for masters mile record. PART II

you can't possibly agree (or tell me of anyone else training this way), who after a year of this type of running, is 1)still running 2-4 hours a day in one run and 2) is still 30 lbs overweight while doing this type of training? This doesn't pass the 'smell test' at this point.

I'm heading out for a 5 hour run now. I'm training for the mile too.

Can you tell me of anyone else who, just months after starting back running at the age of 54 and weighing 70 pounds over his old racing weight, has managed to run 17:48 for 5K at the age of 55? The fact that he managed to do that while still carrying an extra 35 pounds or more is even more amazing.

I think that Henry just needs to get more focused on nutrition and weight loss. As the weight comes off, the times will drop.

By the way, I think it's a sign of Henry's good nature that he listens to everyone's ideas about how he should train. I think it's a sign of Henry's good sense that he doesn't do everything that everyone recommends.

Amazing isn't the word that comes to mind.

have you gotten a job yet? Are you able to pay your bills? You mentioned this last month.

after reading about your 5 hour run yesterday, you inspired me to go out today and run for 4 hours, non stop. I have never run that far before. I think tomorrow I will have to cut back to maybe an hour to recover.

Yeah! I can feel it today.Yes there is signs of stress and the whole body being sore.I will take it easy today.

The 358 day of training phase II.22mwp + 60mhc + 19mcd =101 minutes.I feel great the warm up was coming well.I'm listening to my left quads that sharp pain is healing up.I did ice up last night and I'm doing it now as we speak.

The 359 day of training phase II.BullHead Park was the central point of this morning training for 60 minutes we were all feeling tired I think we have been training so hard and racing for the last three months.We thought we will be slowing down and turn into speed and racing.Eventually no speed only racing at the of all these and the good results will rise up.

I'm just working on number three gear as we speak.I have sitting on gear for eleven months that is too long,but I can't help it.It is these old muscles that dragging my feet too slow, on the floor, for too many months.Now those muscles are gaining powers from 55 year old to 26 year old.You get it!

yes, we understand that you have to proceed cautiously, especially at your (and mine) age, to avoid injuries and strain on the knees. I am trying to lose weight too. I am currently on a high protein, low carb diet for last and this week. I have lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks, though it has affected my energy level, I'll admit, but my Dr. and coach told me it was important to lose my 25 lbs of fat as soon as possible. I still have 15 to go and will have it off by mid July, hopefully. good luck to you, too

I'm glad you get the point.You can lose 10lbs in 2 weeks Wow!How do you feel in the head? Are not getting a little crazy without something in the belly? Oh well! You hit the nail on the head.By the way good job.

I know how you feel, but your stomach has to be empty before your body will take the excess fat from your body to burn energy. There is no other way. Just tough it out! If you keep feeding the body adequate food, then it will not burn the fat for energy and you will not lose weight. (or at best, lose it very slowly-too slowly). I think that is the only thing holding you back.

I agree. I would love to see what Henry could do at a good racing weight.
