I don't think Jamil has been soft on Agnew. It looks to me that the disqualifications, bans, and widespread news coverage with quotes have been proportionate to Agnew's high level of cheating. It serves the races no benefit to continually berate Agnew when they have already voiced their disqualifications and bans of him. That's LRC territory and what we are good at.
It looks to me that the races see this as embarrassing and have learned a hard lesson of trust but verify. I don't see them as having been soft.
But you're making my point--all the (deserved) news coverage came from outside the ultra world. Jamil DQd Agnew, yes, but only YEARS after he was a known cheat. And even then he didn't publicize it--either on his YouTube channel or in any release. It was Derek Murphy, not Jamil, who blew the lid off this. I'd call that being soft. I like Jamil but he and all other RDs involved are partly culpable for how long this went on. They are embarrassed and in an awkward position, OK, but I don't run races that have soft cutoffs or don't verify results and, in the end, these RDs hurt themselves when people like me don't show up to their races.
Very, very true!
Jamil and the entire ultra community are very weak on cheating. Just look at that pathetic URC Facebook group.
They need LetsRun and Derek to keep their group clean, they are too weak, too politically correct to do it themselves.
If someone gets busted for BQ cheating like Mike Rossi, the road running community is brutal. When someone gets busted for cheating during an ultra, they say let's give him a second chance, we are all recovering addicts anyway.
