Valbuena likes the right and can contribute a lot, which leaves Griezmann on his preferred left, hardly a step down from Ribery. If Ribery were on the squad, I'd see him on the left and Griezmann on the right. I'm satisfied with the alternative.

Got up at 2am to watch this. Brilliant goal, worthy of any World Cup. Awesome effort by the Aussies. 2-1 up only to lose 3-2 against Netherlands is no disgrace. Could have even won. Real Madrid is a team full of superstars. They have the two most expensive players in history, Ronaldo and bale(Neymar could be more expensive, lot of funny business went on with tax and payments to Neymars parents).
Real won the European Cup this year and Ronaldo is still the undoubted superstar, Since he moved to them in 2009, he has scored more goals than games he played. 200+ goals in 200+ games.
Suarez had surgery 3 weeks before the tournament and he is gaining fitness now. He will play in the next game after Uruguay loss but may not be fully fit.

I'm definitely watching the Uruguay game today to see how Suarez does.

Ronaldo is the star of Real Madrid in the sense that he's their best player, but he's not their captain. And it's an old debate whether you can be captain for your country if you're not captain week in week out. It happens a lot these days because the world's best players are concentrated in very few clubs and a lot of national team captains play for foreign teams where the language barrier may prevent them from being an effective captain.
Messi is not Barcelona's captain either. And he does suffer a little bit from the same problem as Ronaldo in that he doesn't play as well for Argentina as he does for Barca. But he has a better attitude about him and he plays a more central position than Ronaldo so he's a bit more involved.

Bale plays for Wales. They have a bad team and didn't qualify for the WC. We may never see Gareth Bale at a World Cup because of his nationality.
All this criticism of Rooney is unfair. He setup the goal last week with a great cross. He is been played on the left wing which iis not his position. He is the hardest working player on the team.
I hope we see him playing in behind Sturridge in the 10 position today in his favoured position. I don't know why the media is being so hard on him. Completely undeserved.

Will England be eliminated after some poor reffing that kept a Uruguayan defender in who deserved either a red card or a second yellow card? Suarez comes back from injury for a good call off a great pass by Cavani.

Hate to say it but Rooney is a great player. It's no coincidence he scored today. However, England is lamenting its pathetic defense in allowing the second goal. True fans are welcoming their merciful departure from the Cup after two miserable performances.
No doubt that was a very poor play that allowed the winning goal. But England looked like a very good team for most of the second half while controlling the ball and having a number of shots on goal. Certainly looked better than the US.
Really hope the Japanese beat these thuggish, undisciplined Greeks! I was rooting for the Greeks at the start, but they're playing a very dirty game, and it's already resulted in one red and one yellow card.
