Official Men's 2013 Worlds 10,000 Thread- Live Lap By Lap Splits HEre

Given the history of American medal winners, this race was probably average to better than average. 3 Americans in the field, one with a legitimate shot at a medal.

Funny thing about championship racing, medals first, times second. Those bagging on or cheering for the Africans and then changing their alegiances throughout, I don't get you guys. Doesn't matter if they took it out fast or not. Look at the final results. When it comes to medals and prize money, they got their fair share. I don't get the guys that cheer for Ethiopians and Kenyans and then gripe about Farah being coached by Salazar. I guess it's as close to cheering for a team like pro sports as track will get but when national flags are raised and anthems are played, I just can't cheer for other countries. I can cheer for competitive races that include an American having a chance considering the history of gaining medals.

There is plenty of time and dollar opportunities to set pace for records during the summer. The collegiates do the same thing at Stanford and I don't hear anyone complaining about that.

There just aren't many good track announcers and it seems as though there aren't many willing to evaluate poor job some of them do and pursue someone better. Not enough track fans complaining that actually make a difference I guess. Can't even fill the seats. Helsinki and Rome were packed to the gills much like London 12. Some areas of the world are better hosts in that regard but it is a good thing that it moves around. Hard to complain if I'm not filling a seat. Universal Sports Network is doing a good job of coverage but average on announcing.

Overall thoughts:

relatively boring race. Despite his looks it was an easy win for Mo, I think he faked the drama at the end..he easily had one more gear in him. Played with the field for much of the race.

Jeilan waited too long to kick, he should have tried harder to get away earlier.

Bedan Karoki didnt run well, showed a few spurts but seemed half hearted. Again it was his to win if he picked it up earlier.

Dont know what Ritz was doing racing briefly in front to fade away forever.

Man of the race was definitely Tanui. Led all the way to earn bronze.

If you think the Brits were going overboard about Mo, you must not listen to the US commentators when the US is dominant in an event..its usually preempted by a 5 min life story piece.

After the finish, Mo made a gesture to Jelian, trying to shake his hand. Jelian all but shrugged him off.

Jelian was not happy, he expected to win on that last lap! He tried to out-Mo Mo, laying back, conserving energy, and then letting it rip. He's a fine racer.

I was happy with the fight at the end, a near upset. I see complaining on this thread, another boring race with a weak field and all that. Not my take on it.

Good run for Rupp, hard luck to come up a bit short. Maybe a bit to much jockeying for position in the last 2-3K to have that killer sprint. Hard to criticize his effort however, given the season he's had.

Actually, at first, when Mo was kissing the track, it was the other way around, Jeilan went over to congratulate him but got ignored.

Also, some thirty seconds later, in a scene maybe not broadcasted in your country, Jeilan gave a big thumbs up to someone in the stands.

I dunno, Jeilan got within about 2m with 50m to go, I certainly don't think Mo left much on the table if anything. 54s is no joke in these conditions.

And I think Jeilan played it pretty much as good as he could, Mo's MO (geddit?!?) since his loss to Jeilan has been to get at the front with 600m to go, sit there and repel allcomers, he was never gonna let someone make a significant break.

Jeilan's (and anyone's) only chance the way the race had played out with a lap to go was sit on Mo's shoulder and outkick him on the straight. He just didn't have the speed.

Jelian said in a post race interview that Mo got lucky today. The dude has crazy confidence and is probably the only person who could even think about saying something like that about Mo.

confidence? seems to be a bit off shell to me.

Rupp beat some good guys in this field. look at the results. and he truly did battle with all the Africans.he was the only true American usa guy in the race. I d k why people don't want rupp to win. for us to have guys in 10ks and 5ks that can battle with the Kenyans is rare. we should embrace this moment

Rupp ran another historic race. You have to know history and witnessed 10k Americans over decades to realize how great this guy is.

I'm glad you said that. I agree, Foster is cringe-worthy. He's such a sycophant and should not be carted out by the BBC ever again!

I am not American, but I wholeheartedly agree.

Foster alternates between obsequious behaviour and undue criticism.

At one point he said "Mo Farah, double Olympic Champion......I love saying that". It's not all about you Foster. Embarrassment. He won't be sacked though - if he were likely to be it would have happened in the 90s let alone now. The sad fact is he probably doesn't even know how awful he is.

He did but I doubt English is his first language. So in his mind "lucky" doesn't have the exact meaning us Americans think of it.
