This investigation seems like a bunch of ex post facto nonsense.

I sincerely hope that the primary motivation behind this investigation is to deter future athletes from doping.

May 22nd’s episode of “60 Minutes” showcased a six-month investigation on Lance Armstrong and the various doping allegations he faces. Armstrong’s lawyers are demanding an on-air apology for the report, though they’re unlikely to get it. Just like they’re unlikely to squash the ongoing release of further rumors, like the latest one out of the Swiss anti-doping laboratory.

According to the director of the Swiss anti-doping laboratory, Armstrong’s test results from the 2001 Tour de Suisse were “suspicious” and “consistent with EPO use,” as the The Associated Press reported.

The director, Martial Saugy, made the statement in September, according to a person familiar with the investigation. What makes his extra interesting is that it’s the opposite of what he said in his statement made to officials from the FBI, the Food and Drug Administration and anti-doping authorities.

Armstrong has always denied doping, pointing to the fact that he has never tested positive. A ‘suspicious’ test isn’t a positive one, but it is just one more in a very long list of incriminating hearsay against Armstrong’s word.

The problem with these "suspicious" and "consistent" claims are that they are subjective. These anti-doping labs have discovered "suspicious" drugs in children's multivitamins.

I'm sorry but I can't take these people seriously. These labs want to be given money to test everything. We all must be protected from the evil pharmaceutical companies which are intentionally, and unintentionally, putting PEDs into kid's vitamins.

I swear I'm going to come right through the keyboard and choke the next person who uses the term hearsay incorrectly. A laboratory test is not and never could be hearsay. Testimony about that test by a doctor at the lab is not and never could be hearsay.

I sure hope that the USADA case is not relying on the TdS test. It did not meet the parameters for a positive test.

They have ten former teammates, (not counting the two Juniors who got poisoned,) they have plasticine test results (probably for both comeback years, Contador didn't get nailed for that until the fall of 2010,) and that makes everything prior to 2005 admissible. Right now they will just let LA and his supporters lie themselves deeper and deeper into the hole.

The World Triathlon Corporation's board of directors has decided to leave in place a rule that suspends Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong from participating in Ironman events.

Under the rule, athletes "under investigation" for alleged doping offenses are suspended from competing in WTC-sanctioned triathlons.

The immediate consequence of the board's decision is that seven-time Tour winner Armstrong will not be permitted to race at an Ironman event June 24 in France. It also might end his bid to qualify for this fall's Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.

Big bucks companies are not taking the new allegations seriously. Namely, Nike, Trek, Oakley, and 24-Hour Fitness.

His lawyer? Cmon. His test results showed high levels of EPO and Testo, amongst other hormones. All fitting the profile of blood doping. Difficult to defend, although they continue to try.

The accessible records (which is not all of them) don't show anything close to 500, not even 1/10th of that. i don't know how many there are.

Anyway, we all know how compelling passing tests is. It is just a talking point for the media/public.

Oh by the way, this weekend's news is that four of Lance's former teammates just asked NOT to be considered for the London Olympic Team.

USA Cycling refuses to speculate on reasoning

USA Cycling has revealed that George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, Christian Vande Velde and David Zabriskie all requested that they not be considered by the eight-man selection committee for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. All four riders are former teammates of Lance Armstrong.

"USA Cycling will not speculate on the reasoning behind their requests and will not have further comment on this topic; any questions related to their decision should be directed to the individual athletes," it released via a statement.

Even though Vande Velde had said it would be the highlight of his career a few weeks earlier?

Just like Lance and Bill Romanowski, three of these four guys has ever failed a drug test either.

No, it depends on the contract and on the willingness of the other party to let payments slide. Also, bonuses can be deferred for a long time, or they can be paid upfront.

Nothing unusual. Here is an example for the Los Angeles Dodgers paying players, still in 2011, many years after they stopped playing for them. In one case 10 years later.
