Wow. I can't get excited about this. All I can think about is that this guy is a bit deluded if he thinks he genuinely has a shot at being much more than an above-average collegiate runner.

If you have to run 155 mpw to get fourth at collegiate nats, there's not much more you're going to be able to do for the jump necessary to compete with the elites.

This 'work hard' ethic is all well and good, but the accompanying feel-good line about success following hard work is only a reality in the land of fairy tales.

At some point the vast majority of people have to accept that they do not have the potential to be as great as they're willing to work to be.

It's the same rhetoric you hear out of hundreds, if not thousands, of mediocre college runners across the country. I've seen tons of people content with their 15:xx 5k because they can tell other people that their hard work just isn't worth it. In their minds, a 15:30 on 50 mpw beats a 14:30 on 100 mpw.

Good interview. Just scribbled down some notes while listening.

On the 190 mile week:

- Isn't a once off. Part of his usual yearly increase in mileage.

- Took a while to get used to it.

- More speed and quality added recently.

- Is now fine tuning the strength gained form the additional mileage.

This time last year, consistently 160 mpw

Not much weights over the past year, getting into them now. "a work in progress"

On avoiding injury:

- Massage, physio

- Ice baths

- Knowing when to back off, knowing when to push it

7000 calories a day during high mileage

Doesn't have a nutritionist, looking to work with one soon.

Marathon plans: No plans, bit will do one some time.

2013 plans:

- World xc. Wants Canadian team to do well

- World T&F. Would like to double 5k/10k but will see how things go.

I too would like to sign up for the Cam Levins fan club. The man is a running machine.

Cam runs a lot of his mileage with runners on the SUU team.

Houle sounds like a fantastic coach. Idk what the school is like but SUU seems like a great place to train.

Sam blevins is going to go down in flames like the hindenburg. A bit of loser IMO to run 200+miles/week only to get dropped like a chump on the last lap in the big show. Just reveals that only real me (see Rupp?) can handle it when the going gets tough!

Levins will never break 27:00 or 13:00. The high mileage will break him, he will retreat to a trailer in Nebraska, drinking Natty lights for the rest of his life, and reminiscing to his 400 pound wife (they roleplay Jabba and Leia- but Levins is the Princess!)about the glory days of having Galen Rupp DROP THE HAMMER on him at the Olympic Finals. There will be a poster on the thin plastic walls of the trailer, showing Galen Rupp and some African going 1-2 in the Finals, with Cam barely visible at the other end of the straightaway, out of focus and in the dust of the Real American (C) Champion.
