No disrespect to Terry or Horn But they are not realistic candidates with the plethora of quality and experienced coaches out there willing and ready to move up to this head job.
Combined they have what 7-8 years of coaching experience together?
UCSB can’t be seriously considering these guys.
If the salary is low enough (like most coaches’ salaries) they’ll have a look at anyone who is interested.
I can't speak for Darius, but Gray Horn would absolutely be a great candidate. He's been a world class athlete who grew up in a track family and was coached by the legendary Mouse Holloway at Florida. Having a background in combined events gives him an advantage over candidates who have strictly a distance background, IMHO. He did a really nice job at Tiffin and brings familiarity to the interview. John McDonnell had only 3 years of HS coaching (along with world class distance running background) to an assistant position at Arkansas and that worked out rather well. And let's face it, we're not talking about a premiere program at UCSB. Having said all that, on the outside looking in, it looks like it's already a done deal. Maybe it is Darius and, of course the inevitable complaining about how blah blah blah was far more qualified. Sorry, blah blah blah, go get your own...assuming you can.

All that I can confirm is that Horn is not returning, but not sure why. Seems like the job belongs to Darius Terry.

There is a big difference in being a great athlete and a great coach. There is a big difference in being a great coach and a great administrator. Low salary is correct, may not be able to select someone who checks all those boxes for peanuts on the dollar. Anyone here try to live in Santa Barbara on 50K a year? You will struggle at 80K. If the offer 150K, then you will start to attract proven talent. Until then , Terry deserves a shot.

Blah blah blah good ol John McDonnnel example. For every one McDonnel outlier theres 20 failed hires that go along with that.
Disagree as for Horn, good athletes don’t make great coaches or managers. Way too soon to tell. In time he could develop.
Agreed with the inevitable unqualified hire but why hire unproven when there are so many proven? Other than pay. Is UCSB that lazy?
Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell, Ed Eyestone, Edrick Floreal, and Caryl Smith-Gilbert would dispute your claim about good athletes not being great coaches.
Nonetheless, I'd like to see Gray get an assistant position in a big time program so he can really show his skills.

Is this official? Where is Horn going to land? ASU?
Gray Horn is going to Wake Forest
Whois following Milt to UNC? Wouldn’t doubt 1 or 2 try and stay in Cali with all the movement.

I was wrong on typing that. I meant to say not "all" good athletes make great coaches, really meaning that its not a simple conversion.

Gabe Jennings is shocking hire at Stanford. Talk about going in a different direction.
Looking forward to bringing the NCAA drum circle championship back to Palo Alto

Teaming up with Brooks Johnson is going to be interesting - but his yin and Johnson's temper might balance each other out. PattySue women's head coach.

Where’s the proof of Gabe Jennings being hired?
Dude don’t be so gullible. The real hire he already been mentioned over and over again. They are just cranking people up

Gabe Jennings has ZERO college coaching experience; HIGHLY doubtful a powerhouse like Stanford would go for that.
Shoot even Alan Webb has experience as a VOLUNTEER coach.
