I dont understand what you are saying. Seems his job security would be better if he hired someone with more college experience and his job will be threatened by hiring someone without experience. The title of head xc coach is only a title. Boyce is the one in charge and job who is on the line.

Qualified for USATFs several times. Coached at the high school level (many college coaches would be better coaches if they had done this). Taking over a crew that can only go up. What's wrong with this hire?

Ed is out at UNCC. Seems like a solid stepping stone job for a young coach.

Did you just call yourself an alumnist? At any rate, do you have any idea how many college coaches are hired with only competitive experience? Some make good coaches and some don't. But Fife actually has coached and his resume isn't bad. It's not like the top tier distance coaches are scrambling to apply for this job. If you truly are an alum who wants the best for the program, I suggest you stop bashing your alma mater on message boards and offer support to Fife until you know for sure if he is worthy of the job. The safer bet is that you applied for this job and are just raging against the winning candidate.

A classic Lets Run post of lack of information. OSU doesn't have a full-fledged men's team right now. They have a women's distance program. The entire program was axed in the 80's and coach Kelly Sullivan is trying to bring it back, getting alums involved, building facilities -- they have a new track that will play host to the Pac-12 meet I believe next spring.

So far the only men's performers were relay teams slapped together with men's football players and a football player who was a 7-foot high jumper a couple years ago.

UCLA hosts the Pac-12 Championships next Spring, not Oregon State.

This has been a strange cylcle of hires. Its seems that since schools are waiting so late to fill positions that the quality of hires arent great based on historical standards such as having college coaching experiencr or having a successful program at your former college. None of us can actually say for sure who will be a good coach for what school but there is a certain level of randomness to these hires

So if he did indeed leave Dartmouth according to the UCONN release, anyone know who may be filling the Dartmouth jumps/multi spot?
