I'd say at least warm up or run something Thursday morning.

I think that you should keep your strides 'short' in your race and not sprint at the end, so as not to make the irritated hamstring into a pulled or torn hamstring, putting you out of training for a month! Take care!
You have the knowledge about this. You say exactly what happen and what have been sensitive about.Every time I do what are saying I get injured. It happen when I got back from Carlsbad. I was doing that time trial of 5:28.21,when started making long stride and sprint in the last 150 metres that is what I got my right hamstring problem.while I was healing the left one in which I got it before Carlsbad. It takes a month to heal as you say.You hit the nail right on it.
You are right on it.You have alot experienses than I do.I'm saying yeah I can sprint as I used to looooong -time agoo, not noow!!!

yes, I am about the same age as you, and have no doubt gone through alot of the same training, injuries, etc. that you have, (that's why I knew about the strained hamstring and keeping your strides short)....I just didn't do it AS FAST as Henry Rono! ha, ha (not many did!)

The 324 day of training phase II.Commanche loop, this was higher-improvement by 9 minutes because last time I ran with the time of 108,today I did it with time of 99 minutes.
I feel my body is in high lubrication. The front wheels were in top gear, when the back ones are dragged by the fronts ones.
The knees still waveling off but I could steer it to the straight line.Because of wear and tear,I'm working hard to do wheel alignment.
I hope to get alot of sleeping for the body to recover fast and heal faster.

Hi Henry,
Getting wheels into alignment - now that rings a bell! I've noticed the last few years (mid-40's) that my knees seem to want to stray outward. I was never a pretty runner as a youngster, but at least things seemed to be in some alignment! It takes concentration and some effort to try to pull the knees in, but it seems necessary...

Yeah! you got the point,it is the reality believe me.You have to look at your body as a running sport car.I do treat mine like that.If you like it or not it is your racing car.It has a motor in it. Make sure you do treat it nicely, with great services taking the right fluel and service it on time. Then, you have a good mechine running forever.Don't treat your car as I did mine in the last twenty years. It takes alot of money to fix it up.I'm talking in verabals.
Henry
Of course, today we know all about cross training to still get in a workout while injured or to take some stress off the knees and hips. we never gave a thought to gym equipment workouts back in the 70s)
Henry-
I hope you don't freeze up here. The weather will be terrible for running today (friday) and marginally better tomorrow. I am looking forward to watching you run! There is a lot of excitement in the local running community- we don't get many runners of your calibre in this neck of the woods. Your story is an inspiration to runners and non-runners alike.

The weather in Hillsdale should be just fine tonite...in the 50's w/a west wind (blocked by the fieldhouse & it dies down in the eve anyway). Might rain but odds are against it. Should be another good evening for distance running at the Gina Relays!
Should be a good night for distance guys. Is Henry running in the Invitational race @ 8:00ish? Otherwise, he'll have to wait until midnight.
I was jealous/honored that my son was going to be running on the same track with my idol from HS. Unfortunately, he pulled out of the 5k and is only running the steeple (an event I ran because I wanted to emulate Henry)

Henry,
What is your goal for the 5k at hillsdale?

April 1,2007 in Carlsbad 5k I ran 17:48 right! By April 27 what time do you think I'm capabable?Considering this one is around the track.Guys give me some predictions from now until wednesday evening.Let us bet and for those who comes close and perfection wins an autograph.I wise I have money I could pay for the winners.Three places
Henry
I'll go with 17:03, but hope he goes faster!
Henry will be in one of the slower heats later on in the night. It will be best for him to be out there with guys running closer to his time, than to be out there with the guys going close to under 14.
I Think 17.25 is a realistic time. The time is not the most important right now.You must be use to tuff racing speed. In summer the BIG times will be there.Good luck Johan
Hillsdale Gina unofficial results- Henry Rono 18:55
Henry came through 1600 @ 5:44.
Weather was nice but cool (low 40's), Henry's heat didn't start until 1:15 am Saturday.
It was a genuine pleasure to get a chance to meet him, and then get to watch him race. Watched the race with my son, who told me that if that didn't inspire me to get back in shape, nothing would!
Good Job, Henry!
Henry expected better-did the hammy blow up on him?
He looked tight warming up (slight limp), but I didn't ask him about it. I know he wanted a better time, but just going out there and doing it was impressive to me. Faster times will come, you could see that he still has the heart.
Right you are he's on the journey that's what is important.
Just worried he might have made it worse.
The #1 reason for success in Masters Running is being 'relativly' injury free. Injury managment is important in all training but our 'more mature' bodies need an extra bit of TLC.
Congrats Henry!!
PS I see there was another Rono in the race-must be cool for him to have run with THE RONO!!
It was inspiring to watch him- You have to give him tons of credit for getting this far. I'm sure he'll make it the rest of the way.
I had a chance to talk with him before the meet - a very nice guy. I know the Hillsdale guys were thrilled to have him there. It is not often one gets the opportunity to run with a three-time world record holder.
All very cool. Another step toward the 2000th post!
