Triathletes blow
Yeah, It is kinda amusing. -:)
Have to say I don't really get where Ur coming from. It's like Ur all over the place n haven't pin pointed an opinion.
Technically the bike is only the chassis. Performance will depend obviously on the capabilities of the engine. Having said that 2 lbs off the bike does make a diff once U hit them slopes. Like any hobby or consumer product, if U noticed, once U get into hi-end U tend to get diminishing returns on the $. To someone who's really into it it may be worth it. Some may even pay more just for the particular prestige and technology which has no bearing on performance. As pointed out, " What I still don't get is why someone's spending big money on a bike matters to anyone other than the person doing the buying"
Yes posers can be anoying but let's just let them be in case we find ourselves labelling others posers becuz of our own jealousies.
To me I feel better about getting my $ worth even when going hi-end. I will pay for something only if I percieve it will give me the performance I want and not based on having the most expensive and exclusive. But that's just me.
As for guys W/ x'tra guts n spare tyres for midriffs, well hopefully they will train that excess off for their own good. Why look down on Fatties who are puting in an effort? In fact we should give them our support rite?
Still not heard on my question regarding what's the unique attraction of running that runners feel is special to their sport?
I just watched a half marathon in Brisbane where an 18 year old female triathlete ran 1h:16.
Obviously she can't swim or ride a bike.
She can't swim or ride a bike ..well? So what!
An 18 year old girl...what kind of physical attributes and prowess would be most important?
i have no problems with triathletes. they spend more time in one day training then most of us. who can run 100+ miles weeks, bike some crazy miles, and then jump in the pool for some more. some people need to grow up and think before they speak. cause some of these guys can kick our butts.
Kanga, I highly doubt you were with Special Forces. Claiming that kind of service is not cool and blatant disrespect to those that have. I do not appreciate it.
Also, stop using U in place of 'you' like 80 times in one post. Its frickin annoying.
Hi Shary,
I was just relating my past experience in order to to underline an opinion. Where's the disrespect? Fact is I'm no army life addict. I was conscripted and couldn't wait to get out. To someone like U I can appreciate it may mean everything n all the respect to that. To me life's too short to subject oneself to that kinda unatural abuse. I can find character building things to do in much more comfy ways. As a young man the experience just made me into a very aggressive young man.
Definitely not gonna try and convince U or anyone here. Honestly couldn't care less whether I'm believed on this or any other issue by others or not. After all it's just internet conversation.
But I'll tell U this. I have respect for those who say what they mean n mean what they say. As such I make it a point to do likewise both in the virtual n real world. I'll state it fer the record. Believe it or not ..Ur perogative.
N why r U getting frikkin annoyed so easily? Life's too frikkin short is it not? After all the shit that U must have gone thro in the forces U let an intsy-bitsy U get U uptight?
Cheers!
On a board that will bash anything, Triathletes allow everyone to agree with what they're bashing on.
Everyone's all scattered and the mutual triathlete hate brings them together. Way of the wild.

I'm not sure if I hate tri-athletes, race walkers or ultra-runners the most. Basically they are all failed runners.
But everyone without an olympic medal is a failed runner, right?

Typical tri post. 1:16 is not fast, even for a girl. Earlier 2:45 marathon? That's very slow.
Yeah them man bra thingies are a bit off.
With that truck of yours I guess you could just as easily run over a skinny bean pole runner, since they're so skinny they might be hard to spot, especially with that mug of beer in yer face. Unlike the triathlete you might not hear the impact since the runner's so lightweight, so he may just end up as road kill while you drive off!
So what if you run a 3:30 Marathon and a 43 10K?

I am a slightly overweight middle-aged man. I have always wanted to be a good runner but have never been able to crack 25:00 for the 5K. I was always embarrassed with my times. I decided that being a "Triathlete" would give me some clout with my buddies. Just finishing a "tri" is a big deal for most people - and I can definitely do that! I do have some pretty good endurance and my "extra" weight keeps me buoyant in the water, which helps my swimming.
I am quite proud of a recent "tri" I did. It was organized by my son's little league committee to raise money for the league. I actually finished 3rd in my age-division!(42nd overall) I even have a medal to prove it. (I can take a pic of it and post it if anyone doesn’t believe me).
This sounds like the average triathlete!
Dear Tired,
I would love to know where you live...I will demonstrate to you and anyone else out there what a typical triathlete is like on a daily basis. I know that you people will flame me but i'm adding my email on here so you can PM me and we can hopefully sit down and compare "notes" to see why we are all so far apart on runners vs. triathletes. If you are confussed about what I'm saying, come see me and I'll help you figure it out.

Who here that runs 100miles a week can drop to 60 miles a week, get on the bike 4 days a week, then get in the pool for a true workout there as well.
Vice versa, what triathlete can dedicate all their time to running as much as we do?
Never, ever compare a true 100 mile week to 60 miles a week along with some petty swimming and biking. Mudafuka, I bet you've never ran a 100 mile week.
This thread is a waste of energy. Use that out on a run and stop worrying so much about everyone else. You people are a bunch of wannabes and neverweres.
Triathaletes also get disrespected by cyclists for having those bars that make it "easier" to relax while riding. They do seem to get a lot of hate.
i know that wrote:

Well aerobars do make you give up some handling ability, which interferes with safety in a paceline or peleton. Cyclists pull out their own aerobars for time trials. Hell, they get bikes that have no brakes and are designed for riding counter-clockwise in an velodrome. What freaks. ;)
Roadies are also down on behind the seat bottle cages. Like I've *never* seen a bottle drop from a bottle cage on a frame. yeah, that's it.
