Need to make a correction, Osagie ran a 53.59 2nd lap to run a 1:43.77. But my argument still holds, just take out Osagie; there's a competitive difference between Amos and Symmonds.

Competitive edge has nothing to do with it. Symmonds ran the IDEAL race for himself, set himself up perfectly, and simply wasn't fit enough. He has never in his life ran faster than he did today, and might never run this fast again.

Completely changing the race strategy you've used for years that has taken you from being a DIII athlete to being an Olympic finalist because its the final. I'm sure that would have went well. I mean a few tenths from the American record is a horrible race. Not to mention the top 3 ran 3 of the fastest 10 times ever. Great race by almost everyone in the 800 today. I hope Symmonds and Solomon both enjoy how great their races were.

That must explain alll the other world records we have seen on such a short track...

1:43 to 1:41 in an Olympic final.

Must be a candidate for the greatest race ever. Certainly most impressive gun to tape WR in a final since Bayi in 74. Life must feel mighty sweet for Coe who has his WR at his Olympics at his favorite event.

I'd say it's the best 800 meters ever and candidate for best race ever. World record, world junior record, 7 personal bests and a season's best? As someone just mentioned, it was the fastest 800 meters for every place and it was an Olympic final. Unreal!

These were the 101 seconds man was created for.

Did you see what happened to Kaki and Aman when they tried to go with Rudisha? Give your boys a break, they did good, the entire field ran their hearts out.

apc 2003 you are an idiot and have is all backwards. Do you really think Symmonds would have run 1:41 if he had gone through faster. Kaki and Aman went out with Rudisha, were 2nd and 3rd at the bell and ended up 6th and 7th.

Time and again Symmonds gets the most out of himself. I'd say that 1:42 is pretty amazing for somone who struggles to break 49 seconds for 400m and he probably ran closest to his potential of all the guys in the race.

Solomon ran great and in any other Olympics would have got a medal but if he went through the bell behind Kitum he may have sneaked the bronze.
