Let's give some credit to both Solomon and Symmonds running personal bests, but I have a hard time rooting for Symmonds who tried that come from behind bullsh*t. This is the f*cking Olympics, there are no boys in that final. You're racing the world record holder, you don't think it's going to be fast?!?
Here are their splits:
1. Rudisha (49.28,51.63) +2.45
2. Amos (49.66,52.07) +2.41
3. Kitum (49.92,52.61) +2.69
4. Solomon (49.88,52.94) +3.06
5. Symmonds(50.44,52.51) +2.07
6. Aman (49.52,53.68) +4.16
7. Kaki (49.43,53.89) +4.46
8. Osagie (50.18,52.59) +2.41
I know you'd like to have as even splits as possible, and Symmonds did that best. But so did Amos and Osagie, and they finished 2nd and 8th, respectively. The difference was their competitive edge: Amos was 4th in the pack, Osagie (and Symmonds) were trailing that pack. How does that strategy get you a medal? Symmonds was a full second behind the leaders after the first lap...yeah he ran a personal best, but if he didn't more people would be ripping on him even more. At least Solomon was in it and competed.
