I know there are other threads on this but I wanted to start this one as the official Josh McD thread. Josh is the man. He won the 5k tonight at ic4as in 14:00.49 He had to go out in 2:09 as the FDU kid was taking it out hard. He absolutely blew away the Kenyan in the last 200. His last 300 was 43.4 but really it was all in a huge sick burst from 150 to 50. He totally let up the last 50. I timed the rest. Just 22:57.96 later, he started the 10k. His splits were 456, 950, 1449.53, (1527 5k) 1934.40, 2426.51 (2540),30:22.90. He won easily after taking the lead with say 1300 to go. Last 3 laps of 68.9, 69.82, 70.98. So the 5ks were 15:27 and 14:55. He is entered in the 1500 tomorrow morning. The first heat goest off at 10:50 am. He's in the 2nd heat. The double in a single day is unprecedented. Villanova's Dick Burekle and Penn State's Greg Fredericks won both the 5k/10k in the same year in the past but back then the races were on separate days.

You're wrong. His last chance to qualify was Sunday, or at Regionals.
I'm neither jealous(sic) of him, nor a "hater," and have run faster than 3:42. One thing for sure, I've never run like a fool in any prelim in my life. This was a bush league display. If this is what the guy is about, then I hope he makes it to nationals buys a lot of souvenir t-shirts.

I thought that anyone and everyone who qualifies to go to nationals belongs there, all the way from the super-talented ones looking to blow the field away like I'm sure our illustrious "Armchair quarterback" here once did down to the ones who bust ass for four or five years just to sneak in and have no real chance to even get an All-American certificate, which, from the sound of it, "Armchair quarterback" uses to wipe his butt.

Then again, after years of training I've only run times that "Armchair quarterback" probably ran in 7th grade on no training, and I'd be quite happy to make my DIII college's top seven when I'm a senior next year. Obviously, I'm far too starry-eyed at something so trivial as competing in a race for the NCAA D1 National Championship to see that making it to a national championship is meaningless if you don't "belong there" by the "Armchair quarterback" standard, which does not consider qualifying for it to be proof of belonging.

So don't mind me -- I'm just a foolish child. Would you condescend to let me lick the leather of your La-Z-Boy, great and talented Armchair Quarterback?

Some of you are way off on a couple of things.

Wyner had a Prov. qualifier that I know of going in.

IF he did not make top 5 at Regions(typically tactical) and had NO better mark, he would not get in.

The goal is to get in first and foremost, and his 3:42.80 would get him there now, with a top 12( I think) at Regions.

YOu have to be in it first, many will sit home for Not going for it, anywhere along the line.

How is this a bad move? Anyone thinking so, does not understand anything.

By the way Wyner has plenty of pop, 1:48.x speed more than once, probably more pop than about half the guys that get there.

Did he let it all hang out in a Q round? Yeah he did, and insured his place at Nats, because of it, anything else said is all bullshit.

You can call me all the names you want, it won't change anything, and it only illuminates the fact that you have nothing to offer in the discussion. Wyner ran like a fool in the IC4A prelims and confirmed it in the finals. I've never done such a thing.
Your argument is juvenile.

You've never been in position for it to matter. You never ran a 3:42, unless it was for a 1200.

A fool is one who acts with no purpose, or with a purpose that makes no sense. Wyner is no fool.
