J serra coach recruiting more than a college coach at meet.
Really? You actually saw this? Seems to me he would have been too busy celebrating victories but you just can't stand them winning. Stop the non-sense and pettiness.
You know, someone pointed this out during XC in a similar scenario and she just did it again. I guess impeding is her strategy when she's challenged. Just the two of them and she shoved out into lane 3 to get in her way? Dirty.
It was towards the end of the 2025 New Jersey cross country meet of champions where sheppard tried the dirty maneuver on Leah Starkey.
With regards to the just finished Arcadia meet she herded Combe out. That being said I think Combe should have stood her ground more.
Also while Combe ran a strong race, I think she made a tactical mistake by letting Sheppard run around with too much of an easy lead. She should have been right next to her.
The last 200 of the girls 800M was the most thrilling moment of the weekend, since the last 200M of the boys 3200 ended up being a blowout thanks to Spencer's ridiculous kick against Marcelo. That was incredibly impressive. I don't think even a well-rested Marcelo is going to fend off Spencer's kick. Insane that he has that in his arsenal.
In the girls 800, Combe's post-race intereviews were all class, as always. No excuses made whatsoever and no comments about Paige impeding. Combe was upset at herself only for not taking control during a slow first lap. She showed tons of respect to Paige, who didn't race exactly 'clean', but did what she needed to do to keep Combe from outkicking her. Combe lost her mechanics down the last 15M and leaned too early, but when she came from behind at 200M out and finished only .05 behind Paige, I think she actually showed that she has a more lethal kick.
Combe did "let" Paige cut across her lane right at the start, and that's something I've seen happen to her in the past, even with her former teammate cutting her off at CIF finals last year. That's on her. She needs to get out quicker and not allow that to happen, as those first steps may have been the difference in the race. Regardless, this is a rematch that needs to happen somehow, somewhere. New Balance and Nike need to team up and find a way to get them in an 800 again, with Dumas, Barada and Hickey there too, of course. U20's, maybe?
Impressive run with taking it out early....Niwot had 3 guys under 8:48 without Culpepper who always seems to either miss big meets or run bad at them
Wrong, Culpepper never had any intention of running this meet. I agree with earlier poster- that kid does know how to win, he is fun to watch, pretty form. Jude looks good running too, other Niwot top guys not so much. Will see if any of them have results after HS with how hard they train now- not sure there is much room for improvement
Except that he was entered, accepted, and didn't scratch. Sounds like he "never" intended on running this meet.
Spencer BURIED Mantecon that last 200. Mantecon is no slouch.. one of the best kicks I’ve seen from a HS boy in a 3200. Crazy wheels, definitely think he is in sub 8:25 shape in a better paced race.
Easily, could see sub 8:20, he led practically the whole thing and his last 200 was in 26 or so (I believe it was 27 low but he let up the last 10 meters).
She barely loses to one of the best 800m runners of all time and acts like it's a travesty. It's Arcadia -- not the Olympics. Smile, that's your #2 fastest time ever. Her attitude is as if her dog just died. She barely broke 5:00 in the mile in this event last year (and ended up having a great season).
Their coach mentioned being impeded (I'm sure he's on this string) in another interview. They apparently discussed trying to get a DQ.
And sorry, Paige getting in front of Combs off the line was not the difference in the race. C'mon dude, that just sounds silly. There were another 124 seconds where she could have changed that position.
Really? I thought Comb's interview reeked of poor sportsmanship:

I know way is that interview poor sportsmanship. She's not crying or yelling at someone, credits her opponent, talks about her mistakes and what she was trying to fix. They grab her right after she finishes and is still out of breath, of course she is a little upset but able to smile about it and talk it all through. Please point out the poor sportsmanship.

I just read my post and that was awful. In no way.... is what I was trying to say.
These athletes scratching and not showing take spots from deserving athletes. If Daily didn't plan to race 800m then tell Rich so he could move up a seeded to invite race. That's poor!!!

Why do coaches do this? We saw a kid that hasn't raced all year entered that everyone knew wasn't going to show up in a seeded section taking that spot away from the next kid.

Not sure who this announcer is. They rotated all day. The main 2 guys in the booth, Tim O'Roarke and Mark Gardner are the best in the biz. This was neither of them.

Biggest miss of the weekend was clearly the seeding of the boys 800.
In the Seeded heat, Josiah Bowman (1:49.54), Keandre Kelly and Owen Horeni were ALL faster than Hugh Heyer, who won the Invitational in 1:50.73. Wyland Obando scratched from the invite 800 after running the 4x8 the night before. That spot should have been shuffled to Bowman, Kelly or Horeni, assuming Obando notified officials in time.

Happened way more than it should in a meet of this magnitude. And some of the ones put in the invite heats clearly didn't belong.

I forgot one. They also paid for his entry to be on the start list.
