Hope these guys are enjoying their Jakob-free season. Because watching such a slow win will drive Jakob crazy and he'll be coming for a sub-12:30 5000 soon enough.
Has Jakob ever won a 3,000m championship race in faster than 7:35? Nope, not even under 7:40.
Huh?
Why would he?
Like most, he runs fast enough to win.
The point is that if he has 12:30 fitness, which as a 7:17 guy he basically did, he has a lot of ways to keep winning.
These guys have never had an answer to a fit Jakob over 5000, and never will.
I said before this one that the most intriguing part of the race would be Hockers race execution and if he would do the exact same thing he has done for basically every major final since Paris.
Boy, he doesn’t disappoint.
Get to the front, drive a steady not insane pace, get passed by 4-5 people at the most inopportune time, end up in horrible position, mount furious comeback and either win by much tighter margins than he should or lose races he shouldn’t.
If you’re not fit enough to lead a race where you believe you need to “regather” in the most critical part of the damn race - here is an idea - DON’T (except I don’t even believe that’s the case with him).
He’s the most befuddlingly unique runner of his talent and ability level I’ve ever seen.
Pretty much confirms that Hocker should never have won the OLY title. This is how that final should have played out, if Jakob had not rolled out the red carpet for him. Cole is the most talented, no doubt, but don't think I have ever seen a more consistently bad tactician.
Jakob blocked his path once, definitely not rolling out the red carpet. Kerr was a thousandth from losing to Nuguse, his last 20 he just was hanging on.
Kerr is simply the best tactical middle distance runner on the circuit. Some might be stronger, others might be faster over 150m, but I back Kerr to execute a race more than anyone else. There's a reason that he's left 5 of the last 7 global champs with a medal, three gold. No one fulfils their potential and fitness as often as Kerr.

See the context. It was a poster acting like the race was slow or Jakob would’ve made it faster. The truth is he likely wouldn’t have touched the front until 800 to go in this one.
Hull is protected, especially as a medalist in the race. No chance of the golden girl losing silver for a DQ that is borderline to fans. (Even if it's clear to people with knowledge.)
If Hailu did the same to Hull, she would be DQed.
Right, so the officials, commentators, and all the posters on here who watched the race are wrong, but you alone are right because of some conspiracy in track to protect Hull? Please share your evidence.
The evidence is Hull shoving a runner to the ground and not being disqualified.
You are just being stubborn here. Like when I explained to you that a vaulter can never be "half a meter behind" another and you briefly resisted.
DQs are not consistent indoors. And the inconsistency reliably spare medalists in a championship meet. (There are many examples if you actually follow this sport.)
Not a bad thing; I say let them run. But it's a simple fact that this move would be a DQ in 9/10 instances that aren't executed en route to a WC medal.

I agree.
Much was made of Jakob drifting and letting Hocker through in Paris 2024, but it was still effectively a 100m footrace down a very nearly straight line for all of the contenders.

The issue is that Hull pushed the defending champ to the ground with force, as she obviously, in a split second, flexed up for maximum push. It was outrageous. Hull should have been DQd, and her actions make me question even more how she could possibly be clean with this behavior.

Fair.
I was saying that Kerr wouldn't be able to execute like this against Jakob, but I because think Jakob would wind it up from 800-1000 out (as in the Paris 5000).
I agree with you that he would not be likely to simply lay down a 7:25 from the front, as he's never really taken that approach.
Lets not act like this was an impressive race by anyone. The closing kilometer was 2:24 Ingebrigtsen ran 2:22 at the end of a world record 3K. His final 400m in his world record was 55.4, Hocker's last 400m was 54.9. If Jakob was in this race in his prime he could've won by 3 seconds.
Congrats to Kerr, very well raced but let’s be fair, if Ingebrit was there he’d have obliterated the lot of them and the times would have been a lot quicker
get well soon Jacob. Races are much duller without you
Pretty mediocre race after all the hype, I agree.

Kerr is a championship racer. Jakob tends to do best in DL situations with lights and pacers. The evidence shows this. I know which I admire most - racing and tactics are hard to get right consistently. Those that do are impressive in my opinion.
It will be good to get him back in the mix but he’s had a lot of injuries recently…

Correct.
OED is weirdly gaslighting as if I'm the only one who thought this was a DQ, but to anyone who's run indoors and watched a lot of elite indoor track we know there is a line, and this was way over it.

This is only looking at it from a time perspective and not a championship race perspective.
If the race goes out slow then no you don’t get the fast times. Those that judge their kick and get themselves in the right position win. It’s not really about times in these races.
