As far as I know Ricks and Ligons are both doing the 400/800 double in the INVITATIONAL session, too. A bit risky imo, but I think the results will be interesting.

I honestly really feel like he wasted his season last year focusing on the 400, his ceiling for the 800 was so high it was absurd. I say he goes 1:47 maybe.

Yeah same, and I literally coach in this state.

400/800 double at Arcadia is pretty crazy. If I had to guess, it's probably a dress rehearsal for masters and states. Kudos to them both for even considering it, most would not. Especially Bodi, kid is brave. You can tell by the way he races.

I don't think he wasted his last season focusing on the 400, although I do think he could have hit 1:47 lowish had he focused on the 800 instead. I think it is easier to say it was a waste to focus on it because he is injured now.

Yeah, I noticed that too. He's been getting a second slower each week - If I had to guess, unless he is sick its just from an increase in volume, which should be around now for any 400/800 guy's training program.

Ricks has barely raced, and apparently has been battling injuries. I really don't think he will double at Arcadia. I doubt he even runs the 800m. I bet he just runs the 400m. I hope I'm wrong, but that just seems the likely outcome.

You can dislike how they recruit/other stuff but it's an objectively good program that gets results.

Particularly when the guy who coaches said track athletes has historically displayed an almost pathological lack of comprehension of periodization.

That said, I genuinely hope I’m wrong and that Morales does run faster this year. The fact that he’s only a sophomore and probably still physically developing means there’s a good shot. But having kids run gaudy times in March that they struggle to duplicate the rest of the spring has long been a Chase Frazier calling card.

But what do I know, I’m just a hater.

You are right though, damn near 95% of any kid who runs such an absurd time so early usually aren't able to replicate it.

Look at Aaron Sahlman, he ran his 1:48 in late March 2022 but placed 4th in the state final later that season with a 1:51. Didn't even break 1:49 his senior year either

A sophomore running 1:49.9 in mid February (and has been 3-4 seconds slower since) seems a little too good to be true tbh
