Virginia Invite entries are out. Tuohy is entered in 5000 with Steelman and a few more, as are Bush and Shaw who are also in the 1500 - maybe pacers? Starliper in 1500. No Chmiel. Is she in Penn Relays maybe?

so kelsey chmiel is really injured? she seem healthy in xc and indoor...any news?

because if not, they would have let her run 10,000m already because why would u wait for mid season or late season to run a 10,000m ?? they dont have many meets left or will she just run it in ACC?

Chmiel was running hurt at the end of indoor, and may not run Outdoors, and Hayes got hurt at Raleigh relays where she was on crutches. It’s the NC State way! Unfortunately Bush is next in line and then the whole top five at CC will have been injured this school year. NC State does not believe in taking time off between seasons, which is bad coaching. Luckily for Tuohy she was banged up after her 3000 at Boston and had to take time off……this was a blessing in disguise because she came back rested and is running great, and almost won two National titles indoors.

NC state has a big history of injuries year after year. They got lucky everyone stayed healthy or they would still be looking for their first NCAA CC championship. The chances of them repeating is very unlikely unless they change their philosophy. Lots of talent and no patience or good game plan for all the talent. Survival of the fittest is not a good philosophy!

I cannot disagree with you nor also 100% agree with all of it..

Chmiel had stayed healthy and injury-free, until i guess now. She entered nc state in 2019 and has been healthy all along for almost 4 years. Tuohy, Starliper entered injured.

I cannot really go against the "Survival of the fittest" philosophy because running is literally is a battle of fitness, speed and mental toughness.

There are a lot of reason why an athlete can get injured.. things like the amount of training and extra training, not being strong enough for the hard workouts, not resting properly after a workout, not resting in between seasons//not taking proper time off, not taking easy days as easy, improper fueling, changing form, little accidents.

In college, pretty much all top athletes have been injured, so you cannot really diss nc state for it when pretty much all schools have at least 1-3 injured runners every year.

hayes, they made her run 10,000m because someone thought she'd do well there instead of the 5000m ... it was such a big mistake .. she didnt get injured bcoz of training, she got injured by racing a distance shes not built on.

they do train hard and run 40-50 mpw but they actually also take a time off in between seasons... tuohy went back to her hometown in the summer, she worked hard to get fit.. lost a lot of weight .. and got her strong core back. .. others went abroad for a vacation, some went to arizona, some went road tripping w family .. etc.

THEY. DO. TAKE. TIME. OFF.

something I always grapple with is "what does time off between seasons" look like.

What is your take, for a 3 season runner?

in my area, cross ends one week, and indoor starts the next week. It's a 13 week season. Then after indoor states, you have 1 month before your first outdoor meet. Outdoor to cross is the only good time to strip it down and build up a base.

I typically give one week of do nothing, and then base build for the first month of indoor, while running meets, and probably about the same going from indoor to outdoor.

But we always seem to be walking a fine line.

Chmiel is mentally fatigue, I saw her walked out immediately after an interview at Nationals, leaving Tuohy behind.

If you watch the interview both of their eyes were shifting to watch their teammates in the DMR. she ran to go watch and cheer them and Tuohy quickly followed.
