2019 College Track & Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion

So we have openings at UC-Davis, Stanford, and now Fresno State. And maybe Northridge as well given that mess. Three and possibly four head coaching openings in Cali alone. That is pretty rare. Three of those positions could go to assistant coaches who have shown great results, while I don't see Stanford choosing an assistant. Good luck to all who are interested.

Please stop making sense by using basic logic!! Take her over there in Cali, she would make a great coach.......we would have to make due but I believe we can survive the aftermath.

Shouldn’t UCSB be open too since Gray Horn is “allegedly” going to Arizona State?

Whoever gets the gig, will need to have a couple others ready to come with them quickly if Stanford continues with 3 distance coaches. We could potentially see a couple big name coaches heading west with multiple distance roles to fill.

Kebba Tolbert would be an amazing choice for Stanford. He’s had extremely high levels of success at every stop in his career, and has made elite sprinting a real thing at Harvard, of all places. Since he can recruit elite academic/athletic athletes to Harvard without the aid of scholarships, imagine what he could do with them! With the natural success of distance running at Stanford, coupled with his prowess in the sprints, there would be a rise nationally in their overall program. His coaching connections are about as good as they get, and he would get an amazing staff together. This would definitely be a slightly off-the-main-radar hire, but very well deserved. Stanford already has their hire, they started advertising for an assistant a couple weeks before the announcement. Just like ASU did before Kraft retired. I think they hire from within, but idk who it is.

Same thing can be said for Fresno, they started advertising for an assistant before the announcement of the HC's retirement.

Haven't been paying attention have you? Fresno had a female assistant coach leave to go to become a Head Coach at a DI school in N or S Dakota. Stanford had a listing for an assistant coach to replace a distance assistant they they lost as well, it was presumed they were looking for a young female. Are you saying they are going to pull a Head Coaching candidate from a pool of assistant resumes? Nice logic.

Is the Bradley position legit or just a formality since it is only posted on the higher ed board?

What's open at Davis? I haven't seen anything. Seems like they have a new coach every year for the past few.

Never mind I see Sheffield is leaving. No big loss there.

While I agree with some things here, I think the #1 obstacle for women is imposter syndrome.

I completely understand your point and I agree with you and want to add on to the idea: the experience piece is big, being a former college athlete and current college coach, I value it completely. However, it does depend on what the administration deem to be important to the student athletes and the program and what the candidate brings to the table. That may come in the form of years of experience, or training and coaching philosophy, or competitive background.

The idea is that employment discrimination is happening regardless of the EOE on the bottom of the job posting.

I have it on good authority that Al Carius of North Central College will get the Stanford job. When asked for a comment as to why he would leave such a dynasty at North Central, he said "A cardinal is cardinal is a cardinal."

Cal’s Mo was offered head gig at Stanford. You heard it here First Ladies and gents.

Well on that basis, I heard Larry Fitzgerald is gonna be considered as well. He's tired of the QB/coaching carousel and is a year away from retiring anyways.

Drew and Devin were/are LIGHTYEARS ahead of the current distance coach that stumbled hard into that position. Don’t even get me started on the experience going in.
