You confused a book Bill Bryson wrote 20 years ago with a Facebook post that a guy calling himself Bryson wrote about Bertollini yesterday?
I read that book. Bryson is a real d*ck. No wonder he couldn't get anyone to hike with him and the partner he did find abandoned him quickly. I would have abandoned him or pushed him off a cliff after one day.
That's the only Bryson book I've read. I'm shocked he's popular and they made a movie of that book last year. But he's good at ridiculing people and painting everyone except himself as an idiot, so I guess some people like that.

I heard of this woman a couple weeks into Karl's attempt. I think someone mentioned it on the white blaze Karl thread which I followed. Then the day he completed it, a hiker on Facebook brought attention to her finish, which I linked. Several people knew her intentions early in her solo hike but were shocked at her finish since she did it "ninja" style and claims to trump the record.
Part of me thinks Jurek went out to hike with Karl so he could tell Karl to finish and beat him since he did not want the ninja trying to get the record. Karl also know about ninja. Then she shows up out of nowhere later in the day. What a stalker.
It's a fantasy scenario but does add some flare to the myth.
Can we all just agree this woman is the worst?

I just watched that YouTube video. It's clear that this woman is struggling with mental illness, and I hope she gets some help. Her claims are obviously false, and arguing with her would be as productive (both for her and us) as arguing with a homeless person who says he's faster than Usain Bolt. All of this attention is just feeding her current manic state (or whatever state she's in).

She walked about 20-30% (being generous here) of the AT-SOBO. Rob Young ran about 20-30% of the route across America. Both stayed skinnyfat and fairly well-groomed (shaved face for Rob, legs for Kaiha). Another similarity.
