incredible race in the 800m and symmonds and solomon were incredible. do you realize that solomon is right near gray's american record now, as gray predicted, that solomon has dropped nearly 3 seconds this year and that symmonds finally got the perfect race for a guy like him to follow and kick where he could go out last and have guys to pick off all the way down the homestretch at 1:42/3 pace. This is the breakthrough he'd been working for for about five straight years of 1:43.7-1:43.9 times. Symmonds might have gotten out slightly faster in the throwaway first 6-8 seconds but he does not have enough speed to go out with the leaders here and he played it just about right, needing only to start his kick a little earlier. What a great race for the whole field. Only Kaki faltered, going for the gold. Astonishing that no one else faltered on that pace. Rudisha is the best pacer the 800m has ever seen. He will be able to challenge 1:40.
wtw, coe was an 800/1500m guy, cruz ran a decent 1500m, wohlhuter and wottle were 800/1500 guys, so were cram and elliott. but no sense in discouraging fast 400m guys to get into a race where you have to get out in 49/50 to win. tony mcquay, you are welcome to try the two lapper.
