The problem is he listened to all the boneheads on LR who told him he MUST run 160mpw if he wants to be a real marathoner.
I would not call it a bad day. It is unrealistic expectations. If I remember right, Kibet just dropped his PR from 2:07:53 to 2:04:27 in five months. That is a whopping 3 minutes plus improvement. That must have had a great toll on his body. I think he just made the appearance to cash in on the big bucks that come with his new status(2:04:27). Except for Haile and Wanjiru, I think expecting one great race in a year is realistic. But again Kibet is still a learner. I do not expect much from him next April if he decides to race London as he indicated. He needs to pick a low key marathon to get back his gears. When you analyze Rotterdam marathon in April, Kibet and Kwambai ran the first half in 1:02:37 and the second in 1:01:50. I think kibet prefers negative splits llike that. That therefore means he cannot survive racing Wanjiru. Nevertheless Kibet will be back. Except for Wanjiru, who I call mad man, I do not expect the WR to be under threat this year in Chicago.

I am all for someone to show what they have on the field and not for the cameras and freakin' don't even show up.
As far as I am concerned his leading time is an anomaly ... until he does it consistent. White noise.
