It's a straight final, 39 entries the last list I saw.
I haven't seen current conditions, but I think the smog is a bit better, but it's hot and humid. Outside of those very few who are ready to challenge for a medal, or the top 8, it will be a test of fitness, intelligence, and the will to persevere. I predict there will be several dnf's, plus people who go out too hard, and die. Times will be irrelevant. Go Eric ! Have a good one for yourself...
I'd agree if he finished top 25, considering that top 12 is the AC goal this gives him an extra 12 athletes to follow.
If he is truly a rising star he will rise to the occasion and easily finish top 25.
