Yes, he is from Ohio, but who did he call after he broke the WR? His Butler CCC coach.
If he was such a Kansasn why did he go back to Ohio after Butler. At least his brother stayed in the state after his JC days.
Deb is a very good runner, too. She's going to try to run her 5th Oly trials qualifying time in the marathon, in Austin, in Feb. She won't run the trials if she runs a qualifying time, just the satisfaction of knowing she did it, again. She's still running strong at 42 yrs. old. By the way Butler won Nationals while Fred was coaching them.
Deb is a very good runner, while at KSU and now...she has won the Hospital Hill 1/2 marathon two of the last three years...took one year off to have a baby...I hope she makes the trials time...
Washington State:
The list should include John Cote. He ran 1:49 in HS. Best ever for that state.
Runners from ND
Steve Sundell (Columbia)
Corey Ihmels (??)
Andrew Carlson (Minnesota)
lol...thats about it
Penny Splichal was decent for women
Not a runner but isn't Andy Hampsten the cyclist from ND as well... His ride to become the first American to win at Alpe d'Huez remains one of my favorite rides to watch...

Butch Reynolds is from Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State. You can't get any more Ohioan than that.
According to you Steiner never did much at KU and was "just a good high school runner" yet somehow what little he did I would bet was better than any other Kansas runner over the last 25 years.
Several KU runners have run better than Steiner did while in Lawrence. Craig Watcke ran 28:50 and 13:50s to place second at nc's in the 5. Charlie Gruber recently placed as high as second at NCAAs in the Mile. Mike Cox finished 4th in the 1500 in 1994.
I'll agree it's ridiculous that anyone would think they need to go to Butch Reynolds to find a great one in a state that can boast Ryun, Cunningham, Santee, Mo Greene, and some darkhorse others (Torneden, Fein)
theres also Karl Paranya
Rexing is from Pickerington, OH

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Suzy Favor-Hamilton came out of good ol' Wisconsin

What a stud! I'm about half her age, and she's always my main competition when she comes to Okla. to race. Those 40+ women must have to train really hard to run those fast times-- I remember having to outkick that 50+ Hutchison gal in a 5K when I was 16 (master's runner from Missouri). Anyways, I hope Deb can get the qualifier!

Arizona- Bernard Lagat and David Krummenacker.
Due to the all knowledgeable running gods which corresponded to me through e-mail, I am forced to rescind my statement as to the fact that they are not the best runners from Arizona because "those guys aren't arizonans!".
However, Mr. Randy Accetta has lived in this glamourous state from over 10 years, and has produced phenominal times in his younger days, mostly at the time in his life when he still had hair. Or at least he supposedly had hair.
Lastly, let it be known that Mr. Greg Wenneborg has already has his name listed (English Profs should really be able to read!), and the third individual mentioned (no name to be given at this instant) has as much credibility to be named an Arizonan as the great Bernard Lagat and David Krummenacker.
Heres the Idaho list:
Billy Herman-Northern Ariz.
Rich Harris- sub 3:55 miler
Nick Symmonds-Williamette Div III National champion- 1500,800 as a freshman
Forest Braden-Boise state
Tyler Williams-northern Arizona
Matt Gunn- Arkansas
Jed Barta- Great highschool career. 9:02 3200, 2nd Footlcker west regional
Donavan Kilmartin-texas, decathalete
