It\'s essentially a book about the history of the United States from 1492 to 1992. The history you learn in school and from most history books is very biased and told from the rich white man\'s point of view with large chunks missed out. As the title says this book is told more from the oppressed \"peoples\" point of view i.e. indians, black slaves, women, poor whites etc with lots of quotes from these people. It was sad reading about the extermination of the ancient american indian tribes and the way they were forced off the lands they had been on for 10,000+ years by treaties that were lies.
I find most philosophy and history books hard to get into but this is easy to read and flows pretty well.
I would recommend it melvin. A 9/10!
This book was revolutionary at the time but history has largely caught up with Zinn. Furthermore, he was a radical revisionist, erring on the side of overdramatizing his narratives so he could be sure that he would adequately rock the boat.
