Hocker ran a great race he timed his kick a little too far out though. He'll get it right. NUGUSE tried leading for a but got tripped toward the end. I didn't expect Cheryiout to place 2nd he has been Injured. Looking forward to Hocker winning some DL races next year, if not I will be disappointed because Hocker is one of my favorite runners
The DL really needs to activate punishments for idiot pacemakers who interfere with the racers. Unforgivable
Second meet in a row where a DL pacemaker obstructs the racers. These pacers need training. It's like crossing the street. Look both ways and then make your move. And when you move out, don't casually go into lane 2. Either step off the track or immediately veer into lane 6. These pacemakers start jogging in lane two and then are shocked - SHOCKED - when someone comes up from behind.
Man, Hocker's kick has really deserted him. I thought he'd be closer in a 3:30 race but that top gear seems to have disappeared. Comfortable for Jakob and great to see Cheruiyot running well. I love that guy and I'd like to see him back in the medals next year

With the slower pace and Jakob not pushing it, it was a very untidy race. Entire top 5 over 1508m. Hocker the worst at 1513m. Granted the top 2 had their own issues with the pacer at 500m to go. Tim 26.9 last 200 (13.2), Jakob 26.4 (12.9), Hocker 26.5 (12.9). without the pacer debacle I bet the race is a few tenths faster for the top 2.

It's not so much that he timed it poorly as it was that he got caught up in the Nuguse-Tim tangle and lost 3-4 meters. May not have mattered but you can see all 3 of them get gapped instantly

His peak and focus was at USA’s and Olympics. He had a great season, regardless of the result of the Dl final. He did fine. A well deserved break ahead for him.
He peaked for the Olympics - this race didn't matter to him and he is going through the motions - I think most of the runners were. He wants to go home, get off his feet for a month then back too it.
Long season, diamond league final shouldn't be the last race because the runners peaked hard earlier. Jakob's peak was during the 3k record, he can run 3:30 just about everyday of the year.

While I think he can run a special 12.6-7 at his absolute best in a really fast race, I don’t think today was at all bad from a closing perspective. He’s not in his Olympic shape but he’s still in very good form. This was better than Zurich.

And I don't blame him for dropping off at all. The post-Olympic comedown is real, and it must be hard for a guy who has gone from a 6th placer to top of the podium. He deserves all the beer and downtime he can get
